Always hunting for the next bag

Just got. I was all excited about these! They are certainly well made, impressively so for Gucci. But you guys oh my gosh. Barely WOC sized & for $3500? Satin lining as well, not leather. Insane. To me. Medium size might be better/ more practical but it’s more oblong/ stranger shape IMO. This “small” isn’t small. It’s super mini…

So it's not necessarily the SIZE that bothers me, I think it's the price for a little itty bitty micro bag that bothers me. It's certainly a stretch to call it a "bag"...for Gucci, this is (again to me) quite a shift in pricing. Feels like 1800-1900 is more reasonable. Not....$3500...it really is cute, but it's an itty bitty little baby.

Are they the same shape and size of the ones that Tom Ford did from 20ish years ago??? Because very similar from what I saw on the runway show.

There were 3 sizes of this shape 2002-06 (convertible clutch) I have the Large (but I think AW23 Large is even larger if the fashion show is anything to go by). The old ones are not padded though.

There were also: Shoulder-only style in 2 or 3 sizes (single leather strap); a hobo in 2 sizes (Horsebit on the top of the handle - the Med was the smaller and with suede lining); and shoulder/TH bag in a couple of sizes with 2 handles.

This one just about fits inside (sleeps inside) my 36cm shopper. I'll measure it, but the ones on the catwalk for AW23 look larger to me, but that also be partly the padding.

It's expensive for what is really an evening bag size.

What's the width inches/cm?

I have already sent back. I'm gonna ballpark and say 8w x 4h (interior) x 2d?? inches? the interior is smaller b/c of all the padding. The height JUST covers the width of an iPhone laying down. Again, it was very well made, which I am loving for Gucci as typically their quality, to me, seems subpar (not luxurious). But when I was charged for the bag & subsequently received it yesterday (no pics b/c was a preorder) I was so underwhelmed I was just frustrated (and therefore the post). Knowing Gucci pretty well I think, I'd have assumed $3500 would have been something more usable/ functional/ substantial. So the frustration was over Gucci perhaps going the way of the rest of the houses with their pricing?? Does this make sense?

Totally.

That does make it sound small (around 20cm) - sorry, I have to think in metric/cm for bags  (strangely inches for heel height). I refused an offer for an H evening bag because it was 23cm - I know I need at least 25cm. $3.5K for what is a mini bag is ridiculous IMO.

I think Gucci is doing its usual divide between 'fashion pieces' (those it highlights on the runway) and those it sells at a slightly more affordable price-point more en-masse.

Lots of the Gucci bags are just too high, but I think you're correct, every lux brand has raised its prices to stupid levels.

I'm sure it's doing exactly that. I have to say tho, I haven't really perused the site lately until yesterday. I noticed many bags that were sort of basic/ entry level/ unsophisticated (the usual *$900* bags were now at $1300 or so).

I know when something WOC sized is now more expensive than a Chanel WOC that it's not right. Dior makes some beautiful WOC/ clutch sized bags for 2200-3300 (back pockets and CC slots) so that's what I am comparing this price to. I didn't think it would come in as MORE $$ than either of those brands for perhaps less function.

I received a great LV chain clutch that fits more yesterday also. ...less than half the price. SO...LV for the win??Oddly.

View attachment 5837795This type of sewn edge is a personal pet peeve of mine and at over 3000 that’s an even bigger red flag.

It reminds me of the finishing on craft fair bags. :/

My Hermès Garden Party and Evelyne have the same so I'm not going to prejudge. I don’t have time today but I'd have to see one in person because a red python may be fabulous

This is why I never sell my handbags. In 20-30 years they always come back in style. So old I can't remember when I bought it...early 2000? I know it's in the Tom Ford era. Help @papertiger!
Hardly used, excellent condition. I also bought some gorgeous Gucci riding boots at the same time

I have the same, a Small in Chalk and another Med in Jade. I know the Jade was cruise 2005• and has rose gold hardware

That's why I don't sell either, but i love to use regardless of fashion

Here's me, almost top to toe in Gucci 2020, bag 18 years old. I was going to a Gucci dinner with Gucci executives.

I like to think I had influence on the decision to relaunch the Horse-bit :D

OMG…THE BOOTS! ❤️

OMG…THE BOOTS! ❤️

OT, but hey ;) everybody told me NOT to get them

I went to the store today (buying Bday present for a friend). Nothing new in at all let alone the new Horse-bits, only the 1955. Nothing for preview AW23

I don't know if it's because I'm UK (always late to the new collections these days) but it's August, it's the flagship, and there is nothing new
