Hi all,

If you were in the market for a black leather Speedy B, between a pre-owned empreinte Speedy 25 and the new embossed lambskin Speedy 22 which would you choose, and why? I live in the PNW and am looking for a versatile bag I can carry while walking downtown, for shopping, or a casual night out.

Also, when it comes to the pre-owned empreinte Speedy, how old is too old? The ones available on Fashionphile date back to 2016 -- is there any concern with this? Would love to hear thoughts from owners of this bag as well.

Thanks in advance for weighing in!

Depends if the Empreinte Speedy is in pristine or very very good condition for me to consider pre-owned. Sometimes purchasing new vs. Pre-owned is almost the same amount or just a little more for new.
I love the coussin leather....so soft. Not sure how well it will hold up on the Speedy though, and I feel the 22 is too small for me.

I vote for the Speedy 22 though

Thank you for your thoughts! I haven't seen the coussin leather yet, but it looks scrumptious in pics! I do wonder about how well it will hold up on the Speedy as well, that is a good point.

I also worry about pre-owned, though many have had great success. There do seem to be a few "Excellent" condition ones available on FP, but even that category seems to vary. I can't imagine calling a bag that has "musty odours" excellent condition, but I digress!

The coussin leather is nice, but I would be concerned about it in the rain. Will you be using this only in good weather? As a fellow PNW purse lover, I would choose the empreinte speedy 25, unless you were only using this in summer.

This is a great question! Because the bag is black and (to me) quilted looking, I was hoping it would be more of a fall / winter bag, and while I would not opt for it in a downpour, it sounds like this leather may not be suitable for even those misty days -- thank you for bringing this to my attention! Do you have a favourite fall / winter bag around the same size as a Speedy 25?

I sold my Coussin to FASHIONPHILE after a few weeks because the leather wrinkled. It looked horrible. I hated it. Review pics of coussins on FASHIONPHILE. A lot look this way.
I hadn't though of looking at FP for coussin examples! Thank you for this suggestion! Though, I'm sorry to hear that your bag didn't wear well --it's so beautiful! Hope you were able to recoup your costs

This is a tough one because as much as I like the embossed Speedy, lamb skin leather is a big NO for me. I learned that the hard way with one of my Chanel bags. Lamb skin leather is quite delicate and imo it just doesn’t hold up as good as cowhide, saffiano, caviar etc
Thank you for sharing your experience with lambskin! Until I posed this question, I didn't realize just how delicate it can be. So grateful that so many purse aficionados are willing to share their knowledge!

This is a great question. Because I was debating the same thing. I would love a black speedy and love the look of the new speedy 22. I just don’t like the price. I did compare the dimensions of the speedy 22 vs 25 and there is only an inch in length and about 3/4 inch in width and ht is the same)

I am curious though why the lamb skin won’t hold up to rain?

Last fall I bought a Speedy 25 b in DE. I also like the Loewe puzzle bag, it’s about the same size as the Speedy. If you like monogram I recommend the Cluny.

I just got the 22. It’s absolutely stunning and I love it, but can totally see it creasing like crazy!! Just too soft of a leather for the speedy shape imo. And.. the black strap that comes with it is total cotton, not nylon. I think it will pill easily and totally collect dust. I’m seriously thinking of returning it for something more carefree. Even it’s gorgeous. :( it’s just too pricey to justify keeping.

OMG, that is just gorgeous! Thank you for posting pics! I'm so disappointed for you that it's not going to be as durable as hoped, esp for the price. I would have the same dilemma for sure. That's crazy re. the strap...I would have thought that it would be similar to the MPA strap construction. How do you like the chain strap it came with?
