Hi all, need your help/opinions please - sorry if this is long................ I have a small dilema and I think I just need a good shake but would love to hear what you guys would do.

So my scenario is this, I'm looking for an everyday ring to replace my lovely engagement ring which just sits in my jewellery box all the time as I dont wear "everyday" . Its not really practical ie kids, playgrounds, painting with kids, you get the picture - i posted about it about a month ago http://forum.purseblog.com/the-jewelry-box/need-help-advice-please-on-engagement-ring-513035.html and you lovely ladies bought me to my senses as I was thinking of trading it, I decided that of course I should keep the original engagement ring.

So fast forward to now - I have raised some cash (not a massive amount but £700 - i think thats roughly $1100??) and I have two options. Over the past couple of weeks I have been trawling through Ebay and have also gone to ALL of my local jewellers. In a moment of madness I did buy a 1.76ct brilliant solitaire off of ebay last week but naturally didnt hold out much hope for it as it was I colour and I1/2 - seller was very honest about its flaws but said it was a good stone for the price - needless to say it went back  Very cloudy... Anyhow moving on to the dilema.... I have struck up a contact via Ebay of a lovely seller (who has massive reptuable diamond store in London and 100% feedback) she says she can happily make me up a ring for my money but I'm yet to really get to talk to her about the diamond - she seems to be very busy and I'm slightly worried again about buying a diamond unseen at this low quality that I'm obviously buying with my budget.

I have also found locally, a VERY pretty antique 0.65 brilliant cut solitaire set in Platinum (which is a bonus as my wedding band is platinum and the ebay ring would be 18ct white gold), the ring had just come in when i saw it but he thinks the colour is E (it was very bright and sparkly even though it was filthy) and SI1. He would do this ring for £650 so under budget. I think the problem is do I hold out and risk loosing the antique ring (the jewellery area I found it in is VERY busy) or wait and speak to my Ebay lady where I could potentially get a bigger stone (kind of defeating the object though as the whole point is to get a practical smaller ring!!!!...... Wow! Sorry, this is so long but its helped writing it down as I think I've answered my own question but would still be interested in what you guys would do :smile1: xxx

Antique, antique, antique!!!

(but I'm a tad biased)

Thank you for replying, you'll be pleased to hear.........I went for antique!! :yahoo:So pleased I did - she is petite and very sparkly. Perfect for what I was looking for and I dooooo so love the oldies.

Can I just say though, if I should win the lottery tonight I shall be logging onto your website before I've even banked the cash! - I spent ALOT of last week drooling over your amazingly beautiful rocks - simply heaven - hubby was looking very worried ;) Ah well, I can dream.....

agree with erica and go with the antique one. besides, i'm not too thrilled about this other store being "too busy." i'm sorry, but how is it they're too busy to help a customer? that doesn't make sense to me.

regardless, if the whole purpose of you buying another ring is to go smaller than your other one (i didn't read your other post, so i have no idea how big your ring is, but imagine with all of the things you stated, it has to be pretty big), why are you looking at another solitaire? for me, when i don't want to wear my solitaire e-ring, i wear my eternity bands. there aren't any stones sticking up or anything like that and it's still comfortable and easy to wear while painting, going to the playground, etc. but that's me.

ultimately, you'll have to choose what you want as you're the one who will be wearing it, not us. good luck. whichever you decide, please post a pic.

Thanks! As soon as I'd written the original post, I knew I had made up my mind that I was going for the antique(had been mulling it over for all of 24hrs - impulsive? moi? ;) so thought what am I waiting for..... By the way, completely agree with your first post about the other company being "too busy" - that kind of what stuck in my throat. Also, you're so right about my decision for another ring that "sticks up" from my finger - makes no sense getting a solitaire I know, but as I already have an eternity, for some reason I got a bee in my bonnet about getting a small solitaire - why, i have no idea!!! Hey ho, will be nice to pass down to my daughter one day. Will try and post some piccies tomorrow :smile1: x
