Hi all, I was in Dublin for a small break and my husband took me into the MK store as a surprise. They had a huge sale so I chose a small Sutton in Mabdarin. I asked for a fresh bag so they brought one out from the bag, no wrappings etc just placed in the dustbag and covered in tissue/ I didn't want to make a fuss and I thought I will check it when I go out. I went to a cafe and noticed no stuffing but checked feet, outside of the bag for scratches etc and all looked fine. I got home and was playing around with the bag and then noticed a deep scratch on the leather in the middle snap closure. I then realised that there were no tags on the bag. This was clearly a return. I don't know if it is worth doing something about as I am now back in the UK and can't go back easily, my nearest MK is brand new so has no old stock to exchange with. I love the bag and don't just want my money back, however the receipt clearly states that you will only get exchange or credit on full price so I doubt a sale item will get any refund. Agh, I am so disappointed, this was bought for a special reason. My husband doesn't think the scratch is an issue and if the strap eventually cracks fully (my worry) that we can retire the bag out of circulation and keep as a memory.

Sorry about the long post if you have read this far, what would you do ?!

Well, since you state that the bag is not returnable, I will try and make you feel better about keeping it. It's is really gorgeous and I just love mandarin. The scratch is only noticeable when you zoom in. You got the bag at a deep discount and that's the only "small" flaw. Try and ignore it. Honestly, it would not bother me that much. It's also very likely that you received the last one in this size/ color. The bag will hold sentimental value as a surprise gift from your dh.......:smile1:

AGreed. Lovely bag! it's very subtle and most would not notice it.

Thank you for your input and trying to make me feel better, it does help to have someone who loves bags but who can give a detached view. I agree about the fact that it on sale and that the colour is hard to find now. I have always loved this colour but haven't managed to get it and I think it suits this small bag perfectly. I was just disappointed and a bit concerned that the leather may crack as my nail catches on it. Maybe it is just the coating on the leather and under the leather is intact. I think if it was a full price bag and I could easily exchange for another I definitely would, it probably isn't worth the effort and loose this little gorgeous bag for a credit note.

Thank you and I love your little calf pic with your name! You had a cow key ring/ charm before didn't you- a bit of a theme:smile1:

Thank you. It's actually a lamb lol his name is Milkshake, they are a Calico so rather unusual.. he was my last of the season DOB; june 1st.

I did have a cow fob, that is my Coach one.. i adore cows but sadly, cannot accommodate them on the farm -yet- perhaps one day. ;)

You could always speak with CS but yes, your facing the risk of only a credit note and no bag... hard place and a rock, sadly.

Consider the pros and cons. If you attempt to return, you end up with credit possibly that will not cover the cost of something else you want. I have purchased online my fair share of mangled returns that I COULD get my money back on when I returned it LOL! Your situation may be a little too difficult and time consuming also. Its not that bad of a scratch and mandarin is TDF! I would go ahead and carry it with the loving memory.

The bag is gorgeous! I love Mandarin and the scratch is only noticeable really up close and no one is going to be inspecting your bag at that close of a distance plus you got a great deal. I would wear the bag until it would need to be retired ( which I believe it has a long life ahead ) and then placed back for keeps due to it being a wonderful gift from your Hubby and then move into the next bag of choice! Wear it proudly cause it's a beautiful bag. :smile1:

Thank you! I agree about having to put money into a new bag, I don't want to do that.

Thank you for your positivity about the bag and colour!

I think you are all right when you say the bag should be kept and enjoyed and the fact that you don't feel the scratch is very noticeable, it has put my mind at rest. Thank you all for the comments about the colour, it has helped me make up my mind to just keep the bag and enjoy it for as long as I can and when it comes to the end of its life, I am sure there will be another beautiful bag I can get!!

Is the scratch superficial or does it go through the leather? If the latter, I would probably return for store credit.

Edit: I just read your prior post. Glad to hear you've made your decision. :smile1:

I can't work that one out, I keep thinking it is deep but then I think it is superficial. That was one of concerns about the scratch but I think I have settled on it being superficial. My nail catches on it it but doesn't go into the crack if that makes sense.

I replied too quickly to see you edit! Yes I think I have settled on keeping it but having a deep leather scratch was worrying!
