Well, I am a weak, weak woman. It's very sad, really. I broke my own rule and ordered online from Macy's during the Friends & Family sale last week. I had sworn them off because of their terrible packaging for shipping. But I hadn't bought a bag in a long time and this Michael Kors satchel was already on a decent sale, plus the 25% off and free shipping so I decided to go for it. The bag arrived in only slightly better packaging than I've experienced in the past. At least it came in a sturdy box, rather than just thrown in a plastic bag. However, inside the box there was no packaging whatsoever! Just the paper stuffing inside the bag that I'm sure it came with from the factory. Funny enough, the label showed that it took four days to be shipped UPS from the Galleria--10 minutes away from my apartment!
All that said, the bag arrived in very good shape--I can detect no damage--and it's beautiful! I will post pics below. Sorry the color is not quite even in the pics; I think that's due to the flash. It is a nice muted wine color. The gold hardware is a little more yellow than I would normally like. I generally prefer the very light gold hardware of Dooney. But I took off that big hanging MK logo, so the hardware is pretty minimal and doesn't bother me.
This bag is nice and roomy, but not too huge. It has a nice big outside pocket on the back. On the inside it has two slip pockets on the front wall, a slip pocket and a cell pocket on the back wall and a zipper pocket opening above the cell pocket. There are snaps on each side of the opening to make it smaller, which can be unsnapped to make the bag open wider. The handles are long enough that they should fit over a winter coat easily (not that I'll ever have reason to find out here in Houston). One thing that does bother me a little is that the shoulder strap leather has been pieced--there is a seam in the middle of the strap on both the top and the bottom side. I doubt anyone would notice and it doesn't really bother me, except in principle I guess. One would think they wouldn't skimp so much on a bag that lists for $450. I don't recall any of my Dooney straps being pieced like that.
