DH wants to get me a gift for our first baby due later this year. It took us a few years to conceive so we’re both really excited. Our budget for the gift is around $7000-$8000.

I currently own: Cartier YG love cuff, SS tank francaise, onyx amulette necklace, VCA mop alhambra necklace, plus some Mikimoto pieces. My wedding set is platinum and a round solitaire.

For the gift, I’m deciding between the following.

- Cartier WG love cuff with one diamond: I wear my YG cuff all the time. It’s so simple and low-maintenance. It does bother me a bit because my watch is SS. The WG cuff would help tie the pieces together, and I really like the look of YG and WG loves together.

- small WG love bracelet with diamonds: same logic as the WG cuff. I also like the look of this pairing but wonder if the cuff and bracelet wouldn’t align well. Also less low-maintenance than the cuff because I would worry about the screws loosening and wouldn’t be able to take it off any time I want.

- YG JUC bracelet: this is so pretty and classic and has been on my wishlist for a while. It’s something I would want eventually one way or another, but I’m not sure if it’s as meaningful as a love. Plus it doesn’t really resolve my two-toned problem.

- SS or TT Ballon Bleu watch: I’d tried this on when I bought my Tank Francaise and honestly thought it was the beautiful watch I’ve ever seen! I wanted something very low-key for everyday so still went with the TF, but my heart still skips a beat every time I see the BB in the wild.

- Chanel CF or Boy bag: I have a Chanel woc that I wear all the time and have been wanting a “real” Chanel bag for a while. I’ve always LOVED the Boy bag but worry it’s out of style now. While I don’t love the CF on me (I gravitate more toward slouchy Givenchy or Balenciaga bags), I love the idea of getting one for something as monumental as the birth of our first child and would really enjoy wearing it on dressier occasions.

Any thoughts appreciated! TIA!

I'd choose the small WG Love with diamonds. It's completely worry frf5ee as the screws don't tighten, they lock. It's a half turn to lock/unlock, easy to remove and put on alone! Or I'd choose a WG JUC.

I vote the WG Love Cuff with one diamond. The JUC is lovely but with a new baby you probably won’t wear it as much due to the pointy tip. Here is my stack so you can see the YG cuff paired with the WG one too.

Congratulations on your much awaited pregnancy! I think the love cuff in wg is practical ( can be removed easily in case of baby messes) and will give you the wg you want.
Idk if Cartier does engraving, but if they do, the baby's birth date would add to the specialness of the gift.

Congratulations! That's very good news.

I vote for the BB watch. To remind you that all the time you and your husband waited so patiently was not in vein, and to thrill at every new second with the new addition to your family.
I'm with PT.

You could also pass the watch on to the next generation.

Congratulations on this exciting event coming up in your life!

Regarding "tying" pieces together - there are a lot of schools of thought on mixing metals (I tend to think rose is a neutral with white/yellow but don't love white/yellow together), but if you aren't happy with the combo of the stainless steel watch with the gold bracelet, I wonder if you're going to feel much better adding the white bracelet in. You're still going to have the contrast of a white-toned metal with a yellow one. My experience in trying to do this based on my own preferences hasn't been great. For that reason, I'd lean towards one of your other options.

Congratulations!!

I second with @papertiger BB watch hands down.
It's one of the few watches that I have fallen in love with that I would seriously consider buying. I am not one to change up watch wearing so I don't see the point in having many watches (I like to wear the same thing all the time.) but if there was one watch that would make me change up watches, it would be this one.
Personally I prefer it in SS (TT feels a little too busy for the design).

But I am a watch > fine jewelry > bags kind of girl lol. So I will almost always prioritize a watch over other items.

I would do the diamond love or the BB. If you end up getting the BB, I would think about selling your cuff and getting the diamond love instead. It’s a lot easier to stack with than the cuff. And then maybe one day you can stack the juc when your baby is older!

Thank you for your thoughts so far! I do really love the BB and I agree with @lill_canele that the SS BB looks best. My only hesitation is it would still bother me to wear SS on one arm and YG on the other. Plus I’m not sure how likely I am to switch up my watches regularly, especially with a newborn. That being said, I think it would be such a lovely and meaningful gift, and I’m seriously considering this option.

I also appreciate the input on the WG love (cuff or small bracelet). In my head, this would be the option that makes the most sense, since I would be able to wear my TF and existing Love with it. Does the small Love stack well with the cuff, though? And does a new cuff feel a bit incomplete as a gift celebrating a birth?

Is everyone jewelry/watches > bags? Further thoughts welcome!

Before I had kids, I would've said I preferred bags... but now I'm 100% jewelry/watches > bags. Jewelry and a watch are something I wear daily. When it comes to bags, these days I throw my license and a credit card in the diaper bag and I'm out the door.

I have a Chanel classic flap that I bought as my first big luxury purchase 5+ years ago, and it's honestly not gotten much use, especially since I had my first. I have the medium size, and I find it quite heavy. I adore this bag, but I don't see myself using it again for several years. I need something lightweight that can carry spare outfits, snacks, etc. and this ain't it lol

My husband got me a cheap, cute quartz watch before the birth of our second because I was ALWAYS asking him what time it was, and I think it's one of the best gifts I've ever received. When I'm nap trapped or feeding my newborn in the middle of the night (I take it off overnight but keep it right next to where I feed the baby), it's nice to know what time it is to loosely track naps, how long it's been since last feed, etc. In your case, I'd vote for the BB.

EDIT to add: congrats!! Parenthood is such a wild ride. Enjoy this precious time before the chaos begins :)

Either the WG cuff

In the same boat! Pre-baby I was hands down a handbag person. But now with a chaotic toddler, the only time I reach for my "nice" bags are when I occasionally go out alone or with my husband on date night.

So now in the past 1.5 years, I've hopped on the jewellery/watch train. I'm also super eyeing the BB watch in YG/SS two tone - maybe something you can consider as it will tie in your existing Cartier bracelet?

I'm also a bit particular about wearing items as a "set" and understand what you mean about your SS watch and the Cartier bracelet bothering you.
