Neverfull Question

I've been wondering this ever since I bought my Neverfull GM and it's been bugging me so much, I finally had to ask you guys. What are those gold loops on the end of the cinches for? Do they serve a purpose that I should be aware of? They just seem like they do something besides just hanging there. Enlighten me please!

I think it's supposed to be weight on them so they lay down nicely. Not really sure though!

I don't know, but some times I put them inside the "locker" (can't find a good name for it) Just to keep the bag a bit more closed if I am in a crowded place...

The last time I was in LV, the SA told me that they were for decoration but some ladies pull them inside the purse and clip them into the centre clip to help close the purse. *shrugs* Seems like too much work for me. I wouldn't use them that way personally.
