Please help! I have 2 watches that I haven't worn in many years. One is a Raymond Weil Parsifal and the other a Baume & Mercier. Both have stopped. If the ancient batteries leaked, are they permanently ruined or could a good jeweler replace internal parts? I plan on taking them both to a high-end jeweler this Saturday. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I do not have experience with either of those brands but no matter the brand it really comes down to whether or not they leaked and ruined the movements inside of the watch whether or not the jeweler can repair them. Most likely though, if the movement is ruined, the jeweler will be able to get the movements from Raymond Weil and B&M and fix them or you can send them to those companies and have them fixed ( Some brands are picky that no one besides themselves fixes their watches ) How much it will cost for a new movement I do not know.

If the jeweler says that they can not get them movements just go to the websites for the brands and there should be a contact page where can you get the number to call about repairs.

Good luck and hope the batteries are still intact

Thanks for your response! I'm on the East Coast and it was after our malls closing time - so I called a Bloomingdales on the West Coast. The SA in fine watch dept. said they can send them both back to the separate companies and give me price of repairs. It could take 4-6 weeks. I'm assuming battery leaked in the Raymond Weil one because it is 15 years old. But it might be just fine. The other one is only 3 years old so I hope there is no leak in that one. I hope it is rare and I will just have to pay for a couple batteries.

I took the 15 year old Raymond Weil to local jeweler down the street. He is not an authorized service center for this brand. However, he opened up the watch and there was no leak from old battery! New battery only cost $8.00! I would only use authorized service centers for my j12s. my Cartier roadster (and soon ballon), and rolexes. So hopefully I'll get good news on my 3 year old Baume & Mercier.
