Never buy used bags from Vegas... Lesson regretfully learned.

I can't help with the outside, but if you put baking soda in an old stocking, tie it off, and set it on something (so it doesn't poof out all over the inside of your bag), close it up and leave it for a few days, most of the smell should come out of the inside.

If you do all that, except leave the bag open and then place it on a bit of clean, white, fabric or acid-free tissue paper, inside a large plastic bag (like a bin liner, or something) and then tie the top of the plastic bag, it should help the smell on the outside of the bag, too.

Of course, if you're in no great hurry and don't mind sacrificing a room of your home, for a while, you can just open the bag and leave it out for a couple of weeks, loosely draped with a piece of white, acid-free tissue paper (to catch any dust) and the smell should, generally, fade away of its own accord.

As others have said, you shouldn't try to clean it with products - the metallic coating is often fragile and you may end up ruining it. Even if it was non-metallic leather I wouldn't recommend it, unless the leather was in obvious need of cleaning and/or conditioning, too; as over-cleaning and conditioning is not a good idea.

I'd also ask for a partial refund, if I were you. Seller doesn't have to oblige, if she doesn't want to, but if she thinks the alternative is having to accept a return for a full refund, including original shipping fee, she may choose to.

Good advice, I'll try that, thanks!

Great tip and one to keep on hand..

I don't think it's because it came from Vegas in less the person worked in a casino it's probably she was a smoker. I lived in Vegas for 9 years and none of my bags smell of smoke. I have used fabric sheets. It depends on the lining but you got some really good ideas. If you go out for one night it doesn't usually make the bag smell that bad that it can't air out. Vegas is a smoky place but only if you are always in the casino's and most locals aren't (not being defense just don't want to ruin all the business for people in vegas) If you can't get the smell out I would ask for a refund. I bought a bag once that smelled so bad that the smell never came out. I hate that.

I anticipated a comment like this right after I posted this thread, and am glad I have a chance to apologize now for that silly brain fart.. I guess I was trying to be funny, but sounded like a jerk instead. I've been to Vegas plenty of times and nothing's ever happened to my bags. Judging by the smell, I guess I meant to imply that the seller was a smoker who works in a casino.. it actually smells like the casinos in Vegas.. like the fountains at the forum shops specifically, in fact :P Very odd, but not too big of a deal and kind of funny. Anyway, please accept my sincere apology and to anyone out there considering not getting a bag from Vegas- do. Just make sure to ask about the smell, as you should with any bag from any state.

Not a problem just wanted to give a shout out for the rest of us. Vegas is a smoky place. I really do hope it all works out very well for you. If not I hope the seller does the right thing.
