Hi all, I'm considering plunking down a pretty serious amount of cash on a bag and am wondering if any of you have experience or opinions about negotiating with resellers. I know it's case by case, but what are your thoughts? Is 10% off the asking price an insult? I don't want to damage any future potential relationships.
I'd love to hear from some of the sellers on the forum of you're out there...

I have purchased about 10 bags from resellers in the past 5 years. I always negotiate the price and I have never paid the listed price. Depending on the pricing versus market, I usually get from 10% to 20% off.

Thanks, may I ask who you've dealt with? I am very interested in this bag but get the feeling the seller is firm. I don't want to offend anyone, but I'd also like to save 20%, you know?

i don't think it is appropriate to post which sellers negotiated what amount, as every transaction is different and there are always different circumstances.

but i would suggest you contact the seller, make an offer (one that you would be very happy to pay if they accepted). the worst thing that happens is they say no-- you can always go back to them and give a higher offer or even the asking price.

good luck!

Not really asking for amounts, just more curious if it's gauche to ask. I also wanted advice as to if there's someone with whom she's had a good experience. Like I said, I don't want to burn the bridge by starting out too low or asking someone who isn't open to negotiation.
Not trying to be inappropriate!

I don't think you will burn any bridges with resellers unless you really lowball and offer like 90% off the list price. I mean, after all, they are there to do business and H addicts are few (compared to Chanel or LV) and might be hooked for life. So I don't think they will refuse to deal with any particular person just because of a low offer!

Don't be afraid to make a reasonable offer, just like purselover has said, ridiculous offers and low balling indicate you are not serious. Otherwise part of negotiations means you and seller are indicating an interst to deal and telling each other what each can compromise to. Enjoy.
