so I have a not-so-secret Cartier obsession which is weird because I was always convinced that I wasn't much into jewellery.... Oh well, tPF for you :p

so I have a YG love cuff and a YG plain Lanieres bracelet which I wear together on the same hand.

I was dead set on a WG JUC bracelet because I fell in love immediately when I saw it on Kirsten Stewart. i mean, have to have it. this was a year ago and I am still not in the position to buy it.

I could comfortably buy the JUC ring though. it would be much less as well.

the ring would be in YG and I always wanted a statement ring. but I am not sure how comfy it is, so this is why I am wondering if I should just keep saving and then buy the bracelet in a year or so.

so what would you do? ring or bracelet?

is it realistic to buy the ring and then sell once I am able to get the bracelet or is that a definite loss calculation? :p or get both, so just save much longer for the bracelet?

Unfortunately, in most cases, jewellery is like a car. You drive it off the lot and its value just went down.

Being Cartier it will hold its value better than most, but no one who is not crazy will pay full retail price plus tax for an used item.

Better to save and wait.

I will comment on the wear of the ring, its not very comfy, the nailhead presses on the finger so i only wear it for special occasions or short periods. I do love it though and love how it looks and would buy it again.
I think you should wait and save since the bracelet is what you want in the first place.

I have both the ring and bracelet. If you get the ring you are going to want the bracelet too. (What happened to me). I would say wait and get the bracelet first!

Don't buy the ring to turn around and sell it. It's just a waste of $$.

too true - thanks for the value point of view, while i know this, rational thinking tends to get blurred at times...

it looks amazing on you. sorry to hear it is not comfy, I heard mixed responses about this but you have me hesitating. thanks.

Wait and save for the bracelet! Both the ring & bracelet are lovely, but i would choose the bracelet over the ring any day

that was my thought from the beginning - the bracelet....

I am afraid that I will still want the bracelet and then end up buying that too and spend even more than planned.... congrats on having both.

Wait till you can get the bracelet! You'll still want it if you end up buying the ring :p

yep i have been known for this kind of logic ... :p

thanks everyone for your insightful and helpful responses.

this is what happened:

I originally bought a very nice briefcase from LV for my husband who is/was adamant that I should return it because too expensive. Well, I could have bought the ring with that and would have left it at that for a while (i.e. buy the bracelet much later) and save the leftover money.

however, he has now told me that if there is a 1% chance  that it cannot be returned he would like to keep it.

this puts me in a new dilemma - return (because I can) or tell him I can't and let him keep it (and take my secret to the grave LOL). that puts ring and bracelet far away but I will save to buy the bracelet later on.

knowing that he likes it and wants it makes me think I would feel too selfish returning and buying the ring.

came back to update because I finally made the following decision:

DH to get the bag (makes me happier), me stretching my budget for the ring now and postponing the bracelet to a much later stage because I cannot stomach the cost right now,

and save for my original plan which is buy a love cuff for each of my girls to give them when they are older - I am worried the cuff will be discontinued eventually, plus the cost of two is just a little more than the JUC bracelet. I don't mind having the ring and if I love it enough, the bracelet will happen eventually - no problem to have both.
