Hi there, I acquired VCA pieces in the years but I think I somehow lost way and I realize that I don’t need all of them and thinking of switching some pieces to get other pieces. In my position, what would you remove or add ?

5 motifs bracelets :
YG turquoise
WG guilloche
WG agate SO
YG agate
WG onyx SO
YG onyx
YG MOP
WG MOP
YG lucky alhambra 4 motifs
YG hammered
RG letterwood hammered

Signature bracelet RG
Signature bracelet WG

Necklaces:
12 motifs Lucky Alhambra
10 motifs onyx
1 motif blue Vendôme edition
Vintage Alhambra Heart MOP YG
HP onyx RG
HP silver obsidian RG
HP pink rhodonite RG
HP Green Sèvres WG
HP MOP WG
HP blue Sèvres YG
Vintage Alhambra MOP
Lucky butterfly tiger eye YG
Lucky butterfly turquoise WG

Earrings:
Vintage Alhambra MOP YG
Vintage Alhambra MOP WG
Vintage Alhambra turquoise YG
4 motifs MOP YG
Magic onyx YG
Magic Malachite YG

Ring:
Frivole YG between the finger

I feel like I wish to get the frivole large earrings next to go with my ring and I wish for a Perlee clover too, but not sure YG or RG?
Also thinking to get the clash earrings as I lack of RG earrings in my collection.

I am not sure i am very in love with my 12 motifs lucky anymore even though I didn’t get much use of it. I am thinking of wearing it this summer and sell it afterwards but then I won’t have any long necklace anymore.
-What should I replace it with?

-Any other suggestions on how to downsize my collection and get other pieces that I would enjoy more?

Great collection, but your question is hard to answer bc it depends on what you wear most. For me- I wouldn’t wear the onyx YG so it’d go first. Also the I’d get rid of your signature bracelets one or both and get the clover you want. For me the clover looks great alone, not stacked with other bangles.

Don’t replace your long necklace with anything long, bc it’s not your style. I’m the same. I never wear long necklaces, so consider it a lesson learned.

Do you use your turquoise bracelet? I find it pretty, but if you don’t use it, you’d make the most reselling that one. I do think your hammered, turquoise, and mop would look great together though.

You have a lot of HPs, do you wear them all or was it bc you were offered them, so you felt obliged to buy them, if so, see which ones you wear least and sell those. Definitely only keep either the onyx HP or the 10-motif onyx. You already have the obsidian too with RG, which is similar to the onyx. Or maybe you get rid of the obsidian, since you have the magic-onyx earrings, so maybe you want both onyx necklaces?
I don’t know you but from everything in your collection, it seems you wouldn’t get use out of the pink HP.

I think you shouldn’t go the way of RG, because you don’t have much RG (except for HPs). Stick to WG or YG. I love all your earrings, don’t sell any of those.

That’s all for now, lol. Good luck and enjoy, you have a great collection!

Do you enjoy long necklaces like a 16 or 20 motif; or do you prefer the shorter ones?
What is it that you don't like about the lucky- the length of the motifs?
If you want something completely different, you can try a 6 motif necklace, it's not as long as a 20 but not as short as a 10.

This is hard question for others. What do you prioritize? Collecting hard to find pieces or keeping pieces that you wear the most? If it were me, I would keep the pieces I reach for the most. Then keep pieces that you can see yourself wearing in the future if it doesn’t fit your life now. Then keep the turquoise, SO’s and earrings and get rid of everything else. Then decide what you’re missing. I would definitely branch out to perlee or Frivole, whatever your preference. Only you would know that.

Love your collection! Maybe separate all of the metal colors and see if you can creatively combine them, wear them in different ways. For example, wear two 10-motifs together or wear a 10-motif with a 5-motif. Oh, and you can re-home all your magic earrings to me 🤣

Thanks for your reply.

Well I personally love the black and gold style, the onyx I won’t be able to let it go

For Hp’s I am thinking of letting my rhodonite pink HP’s go because I only sometimes wear it combined with the silver obsidian. It’s a nice soft look.
I do love the WG ones but I realize I only wear them during winter, as I love the icy crisp look with the WG guilloche bracelet for winter.

I am inspired by @eternallove4bag RG stacks. I currently own the JUC in RG and the signature in RG, so i thought the clover paired with these can be nice. But i hear you for the clover as an alone piece. It’s chef’s kiss!

I acquired the turquoise bracelet recently and yess it can look very good with the hammered and the MOP, thanks for the suggestion.

I love love my current earrings too and lately i love love my frivole ring so the frivole earrings came naturally as the next step for me.
I always loved the 3 motifs onyx gray MOP but having the magic onyx and the 4 motifs MOP I thought it would be redundant.

I do enjoy long necklaces for special occasions or events. The problem with the 12 motifs is that for events I would have to pair it with a simple dress but I like to wear fancy dresses.

It does look nice on a white crisp shirt though worn casually. I envision it more for summer or fall.

My collection is a bit messy and I need to make it more cohesive.

I love both :keeping the ones I wear the most and collecting hard to find pieces… but I realize it’s an expensive hobby :giggle:.
Mainly, I would like my collection to be more cohesive.

I am having a hard time seeing from the outside what is missing on my collection. I have acquired pieces without thinking if they are coherent. The HP’s are the ones I’m having the most difficulty matching

Hello
I wish one day to collect such great pieces !
I shall try to give my two cents :
- what came to me first was : do you really use both sets of WMOP in WG and YG ? If not I would choose a set and sell the other one
- same for the signature: either keep one or sell both to get a RG Perlee clover bangle
- for the RG stack : a Perlee sweet clover bangle would look nice
- the lucky 12 motif doesn’t seem to get your favors so maybe let go also the lucky bracelet and the lucky pendants ?
- I would keep difficult to find pieces

ADDING : why not
- two butterfly turquoise necklace
- frivole RG SO 9 motif necklace
- 10 motif agate necklace (WG SO or YG)
- 20 motif WG guilloche necklace or complete the set with a WMOP necklace

- frivole small RG earrings

- hammered gold YG VA ring
- YG onyx VA ring

I underlined what I would think to sell :
5 motifs bracelets :
YG turquoise
WG guilloche
WG agate SO
YG agate
WG onyx SO
YG onyx
YG MOP or
WG MOP
YG lucky alhambra 4 motifs

YG hammered
RG letterwood hammered

Signature bracelet RG or
Signature bracelet WG

Necklaces:
12 motifs Lucky Alhambra
10 motifs onyx
1 motif blue Vendôme edition
Vintage Alhambra Heart MOP YG
HP onyx RG
HP silver obsidian RG
HP pink rhodonite RG
HP Green Sèvres WG
HP MOP WG or *
HP blue Sèvres YG
*Vintage Alhambra MOP
Lucky butterfly tiger eye YG
Lucky butterfly turquoise WG

Earrings:
Vintage Alhambra MOP YG or
Vintage Alhambra MOP WG

Vintage Alhambra turquoise YG
4 motifs MOP YG
Magic onyx YG
Magic Malachite YG

I dont know if the objective is to keep only pieces you already have or you would like to change and still expand your collection ? It is addictive with VCA … maybe begin to sell pieces and see if you want other pieces then ?

First of all congratulations on your amazing VCA collection! You have received such great advice already but will add my perspectives too based on how I try to streamline my collection of anything - shoes, clothes, bags, jewelry etc. May not be a perfect way to curate but has worked for me so far!

Make three piles. I call them ‘gotta go’, ‘you will have to pry it out of my dead fingers’, ‘stop it’s giving me a headache because I am not sure what to do’

Anything that doesn’t get worn and gives you no ‘joy’ should go in the pile 1; pieces that you wear a lot or even if you don’t but hold sentimental value and makes you smile everytime you see them go in pile 2; and, pieces that you are unsure of for certain reasons (maybe it’s a hard to get piece, you got it and even though you don’t wear it you are scared you will regret letting it go in the long run) go in pile 3.

Pile 3 is probably the one most of us get stuck at for the longest time! Pile 1 and 2 are easy enough! Sit on pile 3 for a few months and see if you can force yourself to wear some of these pieces in the next 6 months to a year. Reevaluate after a year. If you are still not wearing them, time for it to be rehomed or gifted to close family members?

I am a firm believer in ripping that bandage off and not letting the pain fester soni give myself 6 months max to decide! Is that a fool proof way of avoiding regrets? Absolutely not but does minimize it to a great extent! I still have my moments of ‘oh darn why did I let go of this or that piece!’ But I just remind myself of all the reasons why it was on the chopping block in the first place and it’s all good after that.

I have found that I like to
  • have sets of two (minimum),
  • mix metals especially RG and WG so trying to build a collection that’s not redundant but more harmonious and can be worn together or separately!
  • avoid repeating the same pieces in different metals,
  • set numbers of each piece I want and type. For example, I want 4 WG rings - a classic, a showstopper, a BTF and a wrap around. Then I work backwards to see which pieces fit the bill.
I think in building any collection, it’s all personal preference so what works for others may not work for you. You just have to play around with different options till you settle on what works best for you.

Sorry for the long post! But, I hope my ramblings are somewhat helpful!

This is such helpful advice! I am at this point myself and stuck in the emotional phase, thank you very much for taking the time to write out this step by step guide.

Aww thank you for taking the time to read my long post @nicole0612 :hugs:I feel like I am a ‘work in progress’! Still discovering what works and what doesn’t work for me but learning along the way for sure! 😅

I think a well-edited and streamlined jewelry collection is such an asset for ease of use as well as maximized enjoyment. I plan to implement this strategy while looking through my jewelry collection. This can be well-applied to accessories, handbags and RTW as well.

I struggle with paring down my RTW collection the most, and honestly it is so daunting that I keep delaying it, while jackets stay in their wrapping in my closets, many still unworn and unaltered.

I think it is easier to group jewelry, using the process that you mentioned, and accessories/handbags tend to have either a purpose or a pairing, but with RTW I am lost at sea. Perhaps because that is my starting point/focal point for an outfit, so any piece can theoretically be used to create a look. I don't want to go OT here, but do you think your recommendations can be applied to RTW? I do feel that I am holding on to some pieces because they are iconic, and of course no longer available, as you mentioned in the jewelry editing recommendations, but do you think the same criteria applies when considering RTW? Thank you for your thoughts.

I feel like the ‘three-pile’ thought process works for RTW too! I do a ‘spring cleaning’ every 3-6 months of my clothes where I edit based on the ‘three-pile’ rule. It’s so liberating getting rid of unworn clothes or clothes that I no longer love, donating it to people I know will appreciate it more.

I actually organize the clothes in my closet based on color first and then fabric (e.g. linens together, silks together etc.). It helps me figure out which colors I have enough of and which ones I could use more of @nicole0612 I think we need to start our own generic thread somewhere on editing our collections! Would love to hear and learn from how other forum members do it!
