I really need your help. I love love love tennis bracelets but I'm too scared og hitting my hand everywhere and chipping a diamond. So, I was thinking of getting a bangle instead but the thing is that I really like the look of a tennis bracelet. Has anyone ever seen a bangle but where the top part is not stiff but more like the look of the tennis Bracelet? Hope this makes sense..:p

Diamonds are not easy to chip actually due to their hardness and toughness so a tennis bracelet with diamonds should be very durable if the diamonds are cut correctly. I would suggest buying quality. Technically if you were to hit the diamond along an inclusion it could chip so the less inclusions, the better clarity the more durable it would be.

I don't have a bangle, so I don't know much about them, but I always thought they were more fragile than tennis bracelets , because of the lack of movement. I mean isn't it easier to have a bangle banged on a surface?
SkyQueen what do you thing? You have both, what's your experience?

BTW diamonds are really really hard, the hardest thing known to mankind :D the problem is if they are not set correctly they might fall. Or if they have many inclusions they can chip easier compared to extremely good quality diamonds.

as a general rule, bangles are more fragile. I wear bangles all the time and have had several of them scratched and bent because i work on computer all day for my job, or i just happened to bang my wrist into something. Tennis bracelet is a much better choice of the two, and diamonds don't get chipped that easily, especially if they are set in tennis bracelet

OK...here is a pic of my slip-on eternity bangles.
I have 4 that I stack.
2 TCW each, 2 YG, 2 WG...channel set.
No clasp to worry about. I've had them for years without any trouble.
My tennis bracelet is more of a worry. I have it checked every 6 months. With wear, a tennis bracelet can stretch a bit giving the little diamonds a chance to pop out. I have lost a couple of diamonds over the years. I'd be more worried about the diamonds popping out then getting chipped.
Hope this helps.

The constant back & forth movement on a tennis bracelet (depending on how its designed) can also have the links underneath wear out/break through & the bracelet come apart. KWIM
(Could show you easier than explain it.)

skyqueen... I L O V E your bracelets. I am not much of a bracelet girl (by not much I mean, I don't own any and never wanted too) but I love your bracelets. I just showed dh your picture and said "I need those!"

skyqueen:

LOVE the bangles and that 'bangin' ring.......Gorgeous!!! Back on topic, I have 3 prong set stackable eternity bangles and they wear very well. Sold my traditional tennis bracelet years ago......I think they need more TLC than bangles, jmo. And I also think the channel style of bangle like skyqueens wear better than the prong-set.

thank you all for your advice. I still have no idea what to get though..:confused1: I thank you for sharing all your experience with me. I guess I'll just have to go see what they can offer and hope to fall in love with a nice diamond bracelet:). If any of you have pics of your diamond bangle, it would be so kind of you to post them:p

That's what I was driving at...over time things loosen. I'm more concerned with the metal in my tennis bracelet then the diamonds.

Thanks for all the compliments...Bagaday, Livethelake and Foggy!

Yup...the channel setting protects the diamonds.
