Hi Suze74, since this is the Celebrity Style forum, and there are separate forums for authenticity questions, this discussion doesn't belong in this forum and a mod will likely close this thread. The fabulous IrisCole was sweet enough to answer your question here, but please proceed to the link she gave you for further questions and help.

Hi
can you tell me how you know, Just curious so i know what too look out for when buying again this one was advertised as genuine, please ?

There are a number of things to look for, depending on the style of the bag. The bag in your photos is a style that was never made by LV. There are also a lot of good fakes, so it's best to get things authenticated in the forum posted above before buying!

Even beyond the fact that LV never made this style, just look at the zipper on the top. It is made of nylon. LV never puts nylon zippers on the outside of their purses. Only cheap manufacturers do (with the exception of ONE style of Chanel and some Pradas, but they manufacture their own zippers and they are not the standard nylon zipper you'd find on a dress. Even if LV made this style, the quality of the leather trim (if that crap is even leather?), the color of the printing, the stitching, the imprint, etc., are all of VERY poor quality. Where I live, those bags sell in back alleys for around $20 US.

More clues - the LV printing is not centered on the bag, or the pockets. If you take a look at the real ones, it is very apparent. All I can say is to go into store which carries the real stuff and make mental notes of the details.

Just an FYI usually on tpf we don't describe why a handbag is fake or real because it then becomes a "how to" for the people who frequent this forum and make knockoff handbags. They use the information to identify an authentic designers handbag and continue to make bags that closely resemble the real handbag and continue to take advance of people.

sorry whats an FYI and tpf ? sorry just new to this forum and dont understand the short hand yet......

Thanks again for all your help in determining whether this was real or not

IMHO, the manufacturers of the really cheap fakes don't care that they are not copying the bags exactly. They just want to put out junk that uninformed women will buy. These manufacturers certainly know already that a real LV doesn't have a nylon zipper on the top of the bag! But, many women, like the one who posted this question, have never seen a real bag and don't know what to look for!

Frequently, with the really cheap fakes, the sweatshops in China will run out of one type of material and substitute another to make a bag. That's how you wind up with, say, a Gucci style being made in LV canvas - and BAD LV canvas at that! The poor workers making the bag don't know the difference and the people running the sweatshops just want to keep production up and running.

The manufacturers of the AAA high quality fakes base their patterns on the actual LV bags that they've taken apart. These fakes sell for hundreds of dollars. They use similar grade leather and everything. So, they wouldn't learn anything they don't already know. Sometimes those AAA fakes are so good that the bag must be taken completely apart in order to determine it's not real.
