We've narrowed down to a black or blue dial. He's leaning towards the black dial but yet he also thinks the blue dial is more unique. He wants something classic and does not rule out stick markers for the classic look.

When I purchased a Rolex for my DH, we went with black

Looks like that's a white gold bezel. The way the white gold shines against the black is really striking.

I like the blue, but we went with black as his suits tend to be in the black/charcoal range as are all of his other high end accessories.

I love the blue dial, especially if he wears a lot of navy, blue, and gray. But, if he wears a lot of black and gray, then I'd probably go with black. I love both the stick markers and roman numerals; the stick markers illuminate in the dark and low light settings so that might be a factor in your decision.

The blue screams out to me too but I'm worried it may look dated 20years down the road, considering at Rolex always comes out with different shades of blue.

I like the roman markers too but my SO thinks it feminine?

I may be in the minority here, but I say he should go with the black dial. The black dial can be dressed up (in a suit) or down. If he dresses mostly casually in jeans, then he may want to go with the blue dial. The black dial is a safer choice though that will go with anything he puts on, whereas the blue dial is more limiting an not as easy to where to formal events.

That is interesting that he thinks that Roman numerals are feminine, as they have always been thought of by the general public as very masculine. Diamond markers, to me, seem like the feminine choice. As for Romans or sticks, go with Romans if he wants a more dressy watch or go with sticks if he wants to be able to read the time in the dark due to the stick lume.

I hope I helped! :smile1:

I prefer the black to the blue - it looks more rugged, to me at least. The blue is a nice touch and good if he'd like something different but I think it'd also depend on the lighting to bring out the true depth of the blue dial.
I too find the roman numerals to be a stronger choice, it looks good on a man's watch :)

I am thinking of getting the same watch but in 31mm and I like the black. Goes with more!

This is the roman and stick markers he's considering. Surprisingly, the stick markers look pretty good, not as retro as I thought it will be. But for the stick markers, the dates come in alternate black and red colour.
