Hi TPF'ers!

First, thank you for those who will take the time to read my post. I do need your expert help.

I am super happy because I just got a beautiful Metis pochette and it's the limited edition "Patch"! Super thrilled!.
I always wanted one but couldn't afford it, now my dream got *half*-fulfilled! Yes half, because it was stated as "very good condition" but it is not at all and it has many marks and needs some repair... however for the price i'll keep and clean it myself!
I did some cleaning research on the forum but I don't know from where to start... I've attached pictures!

It is *very* pre-loved:
-The canvas has some white paintings; that can be removed i guess because when I scratch it goes away
-The vachetta has some stain and some white paintings marks
-the white threads on the "Voguez" patch has become a little yellowish due to wear
-The inside has some marks and it smells.

=> I really don't know from where to begin my cleaning project: inside, outside? Which products should I use?

=> Also I noticed that one stitch on the shoulder strap is removed...If I pull it, it will detach itself... Would LV repair that for free or a fee? I do have the receipt of the previous owner.

Thanks a lot for your kind help sweethearts !

Congrats and a great find just shame its not as described!

The white marks on the vachetta and canvas you can use a baby wipe (ensure no fragrance or alcohol) to gently wipe away. Lucky as the alcantara type interior is the easiest to clean and can be cleaned with some mild soap and a soft tooth brush, just spot treat it in circular motion and then go over the teated areas with a damp light coloured cloth and it will dry perfect. The stitched patch I would be careful with, maybe some gentle soap with a damp white cloth and wiping in the direction of the thread to ensure they do not break up? and finally the strap stopper I am pretty sure if you ask they will send you a new one. I hope that helps :tup:

Thanks a lot for your precise explanations. I did follow every single step you explained and the bag is now all cleaned !
It is resting on my balcony with the pockets all out (all naked ). I want it to get some fresh air in order to get rid of the smell inside.

However the stain on the corner handle on the vachetta is still there. Would you know how I can clean that? :-s The white paintings are gone!

For the smell sprinkle bicarbonate soda all over the interior. Leave overnight or 24h and then vacuum.
I would spot clean the interior first as recommended by @Prettyingblush

Congrats on this great find!

Thanks a lot! Yes the bag is now all cleaned. I left it on my balcony with the pockets all out so to get some fresh air and relax a bit. Tomorrow I will put some baking soda as you said and will leave it there again.

However the stain on the corner handle on the vachetta is still there. Would you know how I can clean that? :-s

Can you still return it?

Well, I could return it but as I managed to clean it now, I will keep it and enjoy it !

Yay! What does the stain look like now? Do you think its an oil stain?

The stain is the same, it did not move. However, the white paintings are gone! Well, I don't know if it is an oil stain or a strong water stain ? Really can't tell :confused1:
Okay, I would try rubbing more with baby wipes, focusing on the stain but also wiping the whole handle over to ensure even ‘wetness’ thats the key to ensure you dont get water stains and also thats how to get water stains out. Hopefully that way it will even out and will all dry evenly to one tone. If it is not a water stain thats much harder to get out of untreated leather and therefore probably would be best to seek specialist advice / treatment

Glad to hear the cleaning process is going well! Did you manage to get rid of the smell?

It does appear more like an oil stain. I’ve never tried this myself but micellar water is reported to work on suede and leather sneakers.

Otherwise you could let the patina process take its course and the stain should be less visible in time.

Last resort, LV can replace all vachetta on the bag at a cost. It won’t be cheap but it will be like having a brand new bag.
