Hello,
My girlfriend's grandmother just passed and we were put to the task of going through all of her jewelry. We came across this engagement ring. It is missing the main diamond, but has four little diamonds on it now. I am not sure if they are real, but that is besides the point. It has a "fiance" engraved or stamped on the inside of the ring. So my questions are: What type of setting is it? When was it produced? Can it be altered to have another prong to help strengthen the setting to prevent losing the main diamond? All answers are welcomed. We are interested in seeing what we can do with it. I have attached two photos of the ring.

Thanks for the help

I think it looks like a place for a pearl, maybe it is gone or was lost?
But it´s a good idea to aks a jeweller who deals with vintage jewellery. The ring should be from the 40s or early 50s.

I agree with this, the main post in the center appears to be for a pearl. Probably from the 50's-70's. The style was quite common, and the pearl should be fairly inexpensive to replace!
