Hi ladies,
I’ve recently found a beautiful aquarium diamond necklace. My only issue with it is that it is 9k and I’m not sure about the stats and if it is worth that much. Most jewelry I own is designer and I don’t worry about stats because I know they are of high quality. I am unable to decide if this piece is worth the money or if it would be better to buy higher quality designer pieces. I’m wondering if the stats on this piece are worth the price, it is an old estate piece

Hi, it is hard to see much on here due to the small print, but think you can do better unless the design really speaks to you. Estate just means preowned, it doesn’t mean it is antique or even vintage necessarily. From the stone information, it looks fairly modern to me. Lower karat gold that is antique is possibly worth considering for the interest value as an antique, but a modern lower karat gold piece in aquamarine would not have a higher value than its component parts, which is quite low. As you probably know, appraisal value is often ~4x higher than the actual market price, and resale prices are even lower. That is just my opinion based on the information here. I cannot make out the design of the necklace at all. If you love it, then buy it because it makes you smile and you will enjoy wearing it. I have purchased some jewelry over the years made by individual artists for the beauty of the piece itself, not because it is worth anything really.

Wait, I expanded the document again and though my eyes are terrible, it seems to say 18k gold (not 9kt gold). The diamond quality does not look very good. My advice remains the same, just buy it if you love the design. It is not a “valuable” piece per se.
