Dear tpf ladies, recently i seem to cant get the 5 motif chalcedony bracelet out of my head....

But i cant seem to see any that is quite uniform across all the 5 motifs. Amongst these 2 bracelets, which wld you pick and why? Left vs right.

Im going to try to go to the boutique to check it out in person tomorrow but was hoping for some quick views amd whag to look out for? Thank you.

I prefer consistent look, but i also like something that is more lilac/lavenderish, bolder in color. Does that mean i should go for more opaque , less translucent?

The one on the right looks more consistent to me striations wise if that’s your biggest concern.

For chalcedony to look more lilac in white gold it needs to be more translucent so that when you wear it against your skin the color looks more lavender if that makes sense. But if you want more lilac tones it’s not going to be “bold” because it needs to be more translucent and will look more soft. Here’s a photo on mine on my hand (my hands are warm so it’s pink and brings out more of the lilac tone), as you can see the parts where it looks more lavender are the parts that are more translucent, which I personally love and look for.

Chalcedony looks more bold when there are more white striations present and I think it looks fantastic on more tan and darker skin tones. Perhaps you can prioritize what’s more important for you and go from there. I think once you try it on you’ll realize which tones you like better on your skin. Good luck!!

Thank you darling for a quick response and sharing, i think chalcedony or tiger's eye are pretty hard to buy for anything beyond a single motif! Lol. I think i need to accept that each stone may be quite unique and wont achieve the type of uniform like onyx or carnelian.. even MOP motifs arent that consistent..

I am asian, so i have fair to light skin tone, but i think i am quite neutral tone, like i cant take warm foundations, nor too cool/rosy.. yes you're right, nothing beats having a look in person.

I just wonder if its something i want to wait n see like 10 bracelets of , you know.. lol but i feel like thats just too crazy and its quite a chore to have to keep making a trip down to the store

Tbh, when i bought my onyx /pave bracelet, i did look at the chalcedony 10 motif necklace but it didnt wow me.. not sure why it is like growing on me. I am also wondering if i am being misled by social media pics. Which look so dreamy whimsical fairy like

I wanted something i can wear on casual days, or wfh when i dont feel like wearing the bling pave onyx out.. although i initially got the onyx pave because i thought i only needed that 1 5 motif.. LOL. That thought lasted barely 5 months. Sigh

That time i also still had my WG mop 5 motif, which i wore casually. But i have since sold that

Based off of your thoughts I have a feeling you might not be satisfied if uniformity/consistency across motifs is really important to you. It’s going to be really difficult to find a stone with striations with very even patterns and tone on all 5 motifs IMO, not impossible but will definitely be a long search. Some members here have also done the long search for even carnelian or blue agate which are more even so it’s completely up to you if you want to keep searching for that perfect shade/pattern that you’re going for. I would not settle for less at these prices! If you don’t really love it, skip it for now and maybe a different piece will catch your eye later. Or your taste might change as time goes on too.

Given that you want to keep your collection minimal I would take some time to really think on chalcedony to see if it’s right for you, only because you ended up letting go of the white MOP and one of the things you mentioned was that the MOP was also not totally consistent across motifs so I’m just assuming that bothered you. When you try it on tomorrow see what catches your eye most about the pieces and determine whether it’s a good or bad thing. Who knows you might end up loving the non-uniform look and the unique striations of each motif? I originally thought I wouldn’t like blue agate because the color was too bold for me on the display and I didn’t want full color motifs but I totally changed my mind when I tried it on and fell in love immediately.

Don’t let social media or outside pressure dictate your purchase because these stones are really so dependent on personal taste and lifestyle. A lot of the photos online could have filters on or perhaps it also just looks better on certain skin tones, in which case it’s still nice to live vicariously through others (that’s why I love seeing everyone’s mod shots here!). I personally think the onyx alternating is a wonderful everyday piece that can be dressed up or down, even on casual days, since the colors are so neutral.

Ah, re: the WG Mop 5 motif bracelet, i didnt like it because for some reason, the white gold metal is not as white or shiny like the one on my pave onyx one.. also, the wg made the Mop look very grey, just not attractive to me for some reason.

Chalcedony, on the other hand, seems to remind me of "frozen", snowflakes, winter wonderland.. in my mind, i am imagining it would pop in the frozen fairy kind of way. Ahhhh, thats right, i also think for the price, i should be in love! The other thing I didnt like abt the WG MOP bracelet is it got boring having 5 similar motifs; therefore i crossed the chalcedony off my list initially.. but then i recently feel like chalcedony is quite interesting and not that "boring" perhaps because each motif is quite different from the other.. (yikes so fickle i know..)

I considered carnelian but i dont think i can deal with the stone getting murky fingernail marks on it.. i can only deal with 1, which is the onyx one i have lol.

Yes , if i want i can wear the onyx pave casually too, but i suddenly think maybe i shouldnt wear it to death, and should have another piece that i can wear on more carefree days.. ☆

Of the two above, I would Choose the left. I like more defined striations. Personal preference.
This is soo hard! Lol. I was leaning towards the right based on pic and vid but i am heading to the store now. ☆ i think perhaps it is harder to know from pics, i cant gauge the actual color against my wrist.

I think, for chalcedony, it would all be down to preferences; unlike onyx and pave - so easy! I just grab and go!

I think even MOP may not be easy.

This was the first one my SA sent me a pic of, but i didnt like it as i feel the tone of the stones are not uniform, like there is one that is considerably darker? But i didnt see in real life. It was sold within the day b4 i can go down for a look. Lol

I just recently got myself a 10 motif chalcedony. Personally I do believe that the craftsmen follow a certain guideline that more or less uniforms vca design. Not all of them would follow strictly but there must be a general plan to assorting the gems together. Obviously this wouldn't apply to gold or flat color gems or porcelains etc, but the stones such as chalcedony, TE must have some sort of mapping.

@EpiFanatic you are quite right, actually in person, the one on the left looks nicer overall. I

Yeah. I agree that trying it on is the best way to tell. Good luck. Can’t wait to see what you get.
