Hi, my mom has a big birthday coming up and I wanted to get her a nice gift. Long story short, I was in a jewelry store today and the pearl bracelet you see in the pic (top one), caught my eye immediately.

I don't know much about pearls which is why I'm here. The price is $650 and they are akayo pearls. After reading up some on akayo pearls I thought they were supposed to be more white or cream colored whereas these are pastel like. That's actually what drew me to them. They look very unique and distinct.

I wanted to ask you guys, does paste-like pearls indicate a cheaper type of pearl? Also, how do you think the bracelet looks overall and what do you think of the price point. I know for around the same price I can get some nice fresh water bracelets from Tiffany's. Any feedback would be great!

I wanted people in this forum to specifically comment on the bracelet in the pic. Those other forums aren't as active as this and I'm sure that within this forum, there are more than enough knowledgeable people to provide an informed, thoughtful opinion.

It's very hard to tell anything from the photo. Do you have a photo showing the bracelet being worn? Also hard to judge without knowing someone's lifestyle - if they would like a piece like this or if it suits their occupation or hobbies. More particularly, you might also want to research akoya pearls as you can get them in pastel shades and colour is not really a determinant of pearl quality. You want to consider lustre and nacre. There is also usually a fair price difference between good quality akoyas and freshwater pearls. So the resources that have been suggested would be a great option for you to find good information to make a more informed choice.

Does your mom like pearls? Since this is to be a gift for her "big birthday", then it is best to buy her something she really wants - even if you do not think it is as eye-catching to you.
I think the one you have pictured is nice but since you asked ... I do not consider multi-coloured pearls in one strand to be as beautiful as a strand where all the pearls are of the same colour and luster. They just look more elegant to me.
