need advice!!

i have the opportunity to buy an estate RG love bracelet for $3500 (size 17), it would be a totally outrageous purchase for me right now (lots of college loans to pay off!) but my DH is willing to give me an "interest free loan."

i tried on the bracelet and it is the perfect size, and at the price, i feel like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity!! (especially with all the price increases!) what should i do??? :confused1:

btw, it is from a reputable brick&mortar jeweler, not an ebay auction or anything!

I can sense your excitement and you're probably not going to like my response but... I don't think you should get it. You've said it would be an outrageous purchase for you at the mo due to your college loans and whilst there is no denying the bracelet is gorge (I want a rg cuff) I would never advise someone on tpf to get further in debt just because you're worried about price rises.

It is a loveLy bracelet - I'm sure if you really want it, you'll have other opportunities to buy in the future. Best wishes :-)

I wouldn't get it either.

$3500 is not a bag of beans. I would wait and check out Ebay etc later. The price just went up so the 2nd hand market is still steady at their $3000-$3800 prices depending on year it was produced and so on.

Why not wait for a special occasion and when you're more comfortable financially and THEN get it?

I agree with neena. I am in the same situation as you are. I am currently in school (therefore I have no income) and I REALLY want a love bracelet. I almost bit the bullet and bought the bracelet before the most recent price increase, but after mulling it over, I realized that the purchase would've been a huge mistake. I really can't afford such a luxury right now and I don't want to burden my DF with the cost, especially since he just purchased my e-ring. So I am going to wait.

Don't worry, there is no rush - there will always be other opportunities! :smile1:

Oh and at $3500, for me personally, I wouldn't want an estate piece - I'm weird that way! There are pieces that were made within the last 5 years that is priced in that same area in the 2nd hand market. To me, if I were to get a used piece, I would try to get the newest looking and newest on paper as possible.

I think you are best concentrating on paying back what you already owe. I would start putting aside very small amounts of money that you will not miss towards a Love bracelet fund - e.g. over a year even just $20 a week adds up to 1k! Think how good it will feel when you are eventually debt free and can afford a Love bracelet to represent this triumph and freedom!

Thanks everyone for the input. What you're telling me is what I know deep down...whether i want to admit it or not! I really should focus on paying off my student loans and save. Oh well!! One day...:shame:

Be happy your only debt is student loans! I agree pay off the debt and get that bracelet as a present to yourself for paying off all debt and going to school. It will then feel great on your wrist. I agree you can get one for 3500 anytime!

I agree with everyone here. If you have that much debt, that you need a loan, then you won't enjoy it as much. :)
There are always good deals! Trust me, you will find another one when the time is right!
