need advice on messenger vs. tote

I was recently in the outlet and I noticed a black sig. messenger bag. I kind of liked it but I purchased the ergo framed satchel instead.
Does anyone own this bag and if so, how do you like it?
I can fit what I need in my satchel but right now I am usually carrying a book and notebook around as well. I think it would all fit in one of the large totes but I'm not sure. Anyone have any input on the messenger bags or the totes? I'm really liking the looks of the newest HS totes.

When you say "notebook", are you talking about a paper notebook or a notebook computer? I opted for a multifunction tote instead of the messenger bag that I wanted because I use a laptop (notebooks are too small for graphics and site design), and I like those as opposed to the Coach laptop (which really should be called notebook) sleeves and bags that can't really hold much more than a small computer.

If you are talking about lugging a computer with other paper books, then do a large tote, but if not, get the messenger bag you really want. They're so cute and really roomy, if no major electronics are involved

I meant paper notebook. I always call my computer a laptop so I don't get the two confused but I forget that other people use the term notebook for both.
I think I'd rather have one of the HS totes or a multifunction tote but liked that the messenger bag has the longer strap and I could wear it cross-body. I'd probably be carrying a couple text books, a spiral notebook and my planner. Would one of the totes hold all of that?

Absolutely! If that's all you're carrying, I'd say that it's a matter of personal style, because either would work. Multifunction totes are very versatile but less trendy, while messenger bags are more young and hip, IMHO.

If you can afford to, just get both!
