Need a book recommendation...

  1. I need some recommendations for what I should read next...but I have a very specific type of book in mind.

I'm really in the mood for something gossipy and a celebrity memoir/tell-all where they have no qualms about slandering people  or a thinly-veiled "novel" where you know the author is talking about real people but pretending not to. I'm thinking along the lines of "I'm With the Band" or "The Devil Wears Prada".

    Can anyone suggest anything?
  2. Have you read "You'll Never Nanny in This Town Again!"?
    It gives real life names!
  3. Even though the writing style is completely horrific, it sounds like Nicole Ritchie's "The Truth About Diamonds" might fit your specifications.
  4. Thanks SwankyMama and Jillybean...those both sound right up my alley. I'm adding them to my list right now (I'm going to a couple of bookstores on my way home tonight).
  5. Jackie Collins has always said the characters in her books are based on real people. :graucho:
  6. ^^^ I didn't know that...he he he, it certainly makes them more interesting.
  7. since you read devil wears prada, u might like books by jane green. i think her books are pretty funny. not sure if you would like them though, since they are fictional.
  8. Yes, definately Jackie Collins!!! So filled with characters you can figure out who they really are!! They are really juicy too!!
  9. I just finished her new one today and I LOVED it! Jackie Collins is always a fun read.
  10. I was going to suggest J.C. as well.

Also how about Pam Anderson's book? Or the book by Jenna Jameson on the porn industry? Or "You'll Never Eat Lunch in this Town Again" by a hollywood female exec -forgot her name

Robert Evan's bio, "The Kid stays in the picture" Evan's was a notorious h-wood producer who lost his fortune and gained it back

I'll try to think of more...
  11. Thanks everyone....I'm loving all the suggestions. It sounds like I'll have to try Jackie Collins. I've never read any of her books.

Starfused - it's funny you mention Jane Green because she came up when I looked at the thing in Amazon where it tells you what books other people ordered at the same time they ordered the one that you're looking at, if you know what I'm talking about (wow, that was a convoluted sentence). So I'll definitely check her out.

Pejcharat - thanks for those recs. I'd forgotten all about the Pam Anderson, Jenna Jameson, Julia Phillips and Robert Evans books. Those are exactly what I'm thinking of but couldn't recall any of them!
  12. shopaholic, please.. get all 4! it will keep u happy & laughing, i think all sophie kinsella's books are worth reading. also candace bushnell's lipstick jungle (very feminist book, worst than sex & the city :roflmfao: ), something blue, something borrowed.
  13. Trashy but very interesting. How to Make Love Like a Porn Star by Jenna Jameson.
  14. Jackie Collins is a MUST.... I absolutely love reading her books!
