I just got my first VCA piece, MOP butterfly earrings for Christmas. Yesterday, I noticed that there are two imperfections in one earring where that connect to the edge so it looks like there are two cracks. Does anyone else have a similar piece that looks like there is a crack? My husband is a little sad that I’m being this picky. Lol

Can you post a picture? Did you buy it online or in store?

MOP is a natural substance so it's natural to see imperfections. If you don't love it, you can try exchanging it. If you're able to get yourself to a store, you can ask them to bring out all of the different options so you can pick and choose your favourite stone.

we bought it through SA so it was shipped to my house before we could examine it. This was the last pair in the store.
I know the imperfections are natural, but I wonder if they bother Other people. My husband is telling me if I don’t like them then I’ll never like MOP because this is normal for the stone.
Don’t get me wrong. I love the earrings, but I wonder if others would have turned away this set of earrings or waited for a more flawless MOP before buying the ones they have in their collection?

honestly, it doesn't bother me since mop is a natural stone and the appearance of grooves constantly change depending on the angle and lighting. even the picture on their website of your same earring appears to have lots of grooves.
what would bother me more are the huge air gaps on some motifs. that is a no-no for me. but if you are really bothered, you can exchange.

Thanks for your advice! Your comparison to the website pics really shuts me up. Lol. You’ve put my mind at ease!

This would not bother me personally. When I went into the store to see different VA MOP necklaces every piece was different and had other patterns. I choose the one I liked best. 1 of the 3 I would not buy, other ones were fine. If you don't love these, you can exchange and wait for a new pair. Every pair is different. Don't settle if it will bother you.

Agree with @LuckyMe14--every MOP piece is different and you have to make sure you love your piece. I don't think a natural groove would bother me. But I'm always concerned about the vibrancy of the stone. Some MOP appears flat. I always ask to see several pieces of MOP and choose the one that has the most iridescence. If I can't get to the store, I rely on my SA to pick.

I really love them. Given that it’s the only pair, I can’t compare. I guess I’m wondering what makes for a less desirable MOP. The left one has symmetrical texture throughout, if that makes sense. The right one is the one where the iridescence looks more textured or the grooves are less symmetrical. But it is still beautiful. The picture doesn’t capture it but because they are a pair of earrings, I wonder if the fact that one looks different than the other matters.
But I do love them, and I am inclined to keep them.

Some pieces of MOP are looking more dull and flat. If the ones you have speak to you, of course keep them! There is no exact same textured pair. It is a natural stone and it is just what you prefer. I think yours are beautiful.

I can only speak for my VA necklace, but the front of the necklace is very iridescent and overall the same structure but the back of it has more pattern. I prefer the front and choose this one because of its front look. One piece I saw did have a very noticable line across the piece (like a crack). And I do not love that. Here are two pictures of the front and 1 of the back. Don’t know if pictures are showing it. Don’t know if it is any help though haha

Just took the pictures for this purpose, so please excuse the poor lighting of the kitchen!

thanks for posting pics! Your pendant looks beautiful.

Thanks for saying that a line in the middle would be unattractive. And having an MOP that is so perfect would make it look too flat and boring. You are helping me make a whole lot of sense given my store being in lockdown!

Yes if it was only white and flat it would not be so attractive right? It is the different lightning and the pattern that defines its beauty, in my opinion! The pattern should appeal to you and luckily everyone has their own taste, right . I would not be bothered by lines which are just in the natural stone as long as it is not overwhelming. I hope you love and enjoy your new and first piece of VCA! It is very addictive actually.
