Hi all,

Please help. My wife has said she wants me to get her a bag for her anniversary present.

Normally I’m fine with buying her clothes, I know my old Celiné from my new Celine.

But handbags... sure I can tell a Birkin from a Bayswater. But I’m kind of lost after that.

so far I’ve seen the See By Chloe ‘Joan’ size small. but nothing else.

Right:
Budget - £300
Colour - black or brown
Style - shoulder (Big enough to hold a few bits)

Please, please help.

thank you

Christian

There are literally thousands of options, so recommending one particular bag would be impossible.

I suggest looking at websites that sell contemporary bags among other things. There you'll find lots of options from well-known to new but really nice brands within your budget. Lots of resellers do promotions these days. Check out shopbop, luisaviaroma - never ordered from them myself, but heard good reviews. Just scroll through them and think of what would go with your wife's wardrobe.

Personally, I would recommend Coach (they have great leather and a very long history), Tory Burch, See by Chloe, Botkier, Staud, The Curated. Those are just the few I know of. There's many more.

What type of bag does she normally wear / what does she like? Perhaps you could help us out by providing a few photos of how she normally styles herself (blurring out her face for privacy perhaps), that might be helpful if you're comfortable with it.

I agree with the above ^ there are so many promotions nowadays, I would look to get something on sale. I would also personally recommend Coach and Tory Burch, both of these were my favorites back in the day and the quality has never been anything but amazing for the price.

i guess I’d really like to know what’s best quality/won’t date.

I would say this is a really tough thing to recommend.

Bare minimum you would need to know if she likes big bags vs small, what carrying method she prefers, material choice (leather - canvas - vegan), metal hardware choice.

Kinda hard with COVID but a shopping date can always be fun since a bag can be so personal having the recipient present can help. Ending with a nice lunch out to top it off!

Since you are UK based check out Aspinal as they are currently having sales and make a wonderful quality product.

Hi,

thank you for your reply.

She has a Gucci canvas shoulder bag - but it’s patterned and not for regular wear.
Comme des Garçons pouch.
Tula crossbody
M&S shoulder

she wants something timeless and practical. Pref black or brown.
EDC inc, phone, large purse, paper diary, small makeup, hand sanitiser (COVID). Sometimes ipad.

so Coach and TB - good.

Is the See By Chloe I mentioned not so?

I’ll attach a few photos - bag style. No

I’ve followed your original post and the replies...have you thought about Polene? A black Numero Un with the moc croc flap is a well made, attractive bag that fits your brief. It would be slightly above your budget (about 315 pounds) but is a highly regarded, practical bag enjoyed by many TPFers here (myself included) and is widely considered one of the best bags available for under 500 pounds (or euros)

I think you should go see the bags of Stéphanie Cesaire in Paris ... At the moment, I saw on their site that there are a lot of promotions and also 20% on the whole collection, I think it takes that I absolutely benefit from it, it's a small company, everything is done in France in sublime leathers and frankly it's the best ratio of creativity, quality price on real luxury bags.
