my new white flap is now brown.. HELP!!

  1. I am freaking out!! tonight was only the second night that I took my beautiful white cavier 2.55 flap out.. and it's now brown due to my top  and i've been searching and reading information on how to get rid of the color transfer on this forum for the past 2 hours. there are several recommendations made by you ladies. but i haven't found a solution that works well for everyone yet..

should i take it to chanel boutique and have them check out the color transfer? or should i try to clean it myself first? also which way is the best way to get rid of color transfer for a white cavier flap (AG? kiwi saddle soap? magic eraser? leather cpr? shining monkey? coach cleaner? others?)? and if the stain comes off, do i need to apply anything else to the purse to prevent future heart attacks aka color transfers?

    any help is much appreciated!!
  2. I would try the magic eraser first but only because it had worked with just about all of my bags. I applied apple guard right after to prevent future stains. If you're a little uneasy about doing that then I suggest taking it to the Chanel boutique and see what they can do. Goodluck!

    Welcome to the forum
  3. Oh dear, I am hesitant to advise you on any particular remedy justwhisper.
If it were me, I'd take the bag to a professional handbag repair place or to Chanel. Best of luck to you. Let us know how it turns out.
  4. Hi,

    This is my advice:

    1. Do not panic
    2. was there any card or care booklet warning you of this happening? if yes call the chanel store and ask for instructions on what you or they can do. If no warning DEMAND an exchange.
    3. No matter what do not attempt to fix it yourself because if you might prevent further and possibly irreversible damage that might affect your rights.
    4. GOOD LUCK
  5. I agree with Cyprus. Unless they specifically warn you ( in writing) about color transfer and advise you to take the necessary precautions, you shouldn't have to worry about it. As a matter of fact, when I was looking at a white caviar and asked about color transfer, every SA said that there wouldn't be any.
  6. Saddle soap WILL work. WHen I got my ivory caviar bag it had transfer marks from jeans. I used saddlesoap and there is NOT A TRACE.

Use a damp cloth and dip it in the saddlesoap. Wipe it off. You can buy saddlesoap anywhere from Walgreens, to any shoe store. Good luck! You'll see it works!

  7. what is saddlesoap?

  8. i agree. good luck
  9. Saddlesoap is a leather cleaner. You can find it anywhere shoes are sold, or target, walmart, etc. Its in the section near shoepolishes, shoelaces, etc. Its pretty gentle. I have used it on caviar leather and it was fine. It was the only thing that removed the transfer marks.
  10. I had the same problem w/my white cerf tote, but from denim. I took it back to the Chanel store I bought it from and they told me they actually send it out to a leather specialist and have it dyed. I went ahead and got it dyed but the texture was different when I got it back.
I wish I had known about the saddlesoap
  11. Yea, my SA also said no color transfer would ever happen to white caviar! Maybe they just say it just so they can make a sale!!
  12. It happened to me and I was freaking out, you can return it or they will clean it for you but it takes about 2 months. I was able to clean it off and it worked great with ALDO leather enhance cleaner. It works great then after you clean it let it dry then add their protector spray on it. It will never happen again. (apply spray before every use)
  13. thank you ladies for all the suggestions!!

i went to the chanel boutique at south coast plaza today. the SA who helped me was very helpful. she offered to take the purse back since i wasn't informed about the possible color transfers. i ended up coming home with a black 2.55 flap. altho i'm still very much in love with the white one, i know getting a black one will reduce my paranoia significantly. the black is classic and beautiful, and good for all seasons and occasions

i was told by the SA to not treat the purse with anything. she also said that white purses will get dark colors on them no matter what (opposite of what my original SA said). it's just confusing how each SA has different "correct" info :hrmm:
  14. i am happy it worked out for you. you will be much happier eith the black one. please post pictures.
  15. Good that they let you exchange for another bag! post pics please!! :flowers:
