my new shiba inu puppy!

If you go on youtube, there are tons of video of shibas and their communication methods lol And nothing to be scared of, it is just something they do. Honest!

Squeeee! Another Shiba owner here  Mine's currently lying on her back on the floor after "killing" a pine cone LOL.

Feel free to PM for info - shiba's are a subject I can talk about for HOURS... be warned ;)

I bought mine from a breeder here in Japan (I think the breed here is slightly different from the US breed) and brought her home at about 7 weeks old (quite late for Japan standards). It's good to get them home asap to get the pup used to your family.

Socialise as much as possible, and then some

I disagree. The very minimum is 8 weeks old and ideally the pup should be separated from his mother at 3months and a half. Its a bad idea to separate the puppy from its mother too early. It can cause a lot of behavior problems.
I think OP is going to bring her puppy home when he is 8 weeks old which is why I advised on the previous page to wait a little longer.

I stated the norm in Japan - which is to separate pups from their mum at 5 or 6 weeks. Personally, I DO believe this is way too early.

These pups are then put into glass tanks in pet shops with no companionship, no darkness and no handling. THIS is what causes behavioural problems.

Our "pup" is now 16 months old and has no behavioural problems at all.

ooh, really? 3 months?? i've read that 8 weeks is the ideal time for a puppy to adjust to a new home and well, we just want him home! hehe.

and to those who said to feel free to pm, i will take you up on that offer! for example, when he first blows his coat.

i'm so ansty and i'd love to buy pet stuff now like pet beds, but i need to see how he sleeps first. oh, and what size crate does other shiba inu owners use? if you do crate train.

Yes but the mother teaches the pups many things that we can really teach them the way she does.
I understand that OP want to have her puppy home as soon as possible and when I see the picture I too would want him home. He is "a croquer".
I just hope that you might consider the possibility of leaving the pup a little longer with his mother.
