When my husband and I first married 30 years ago, we would go to dinner with his colleagues and their wives. They all had enormous engagement rings. This was back in the day before large stones were the norm. I told him then that when he was promoted to S.V.P. I wanted a "rock"! He made SVP a number of years ago, but we had kids starting to drive and go to college. A new ring for me wasn't in the budget. I had hoped I would get it at our 25 year anniversary but he got me a three stone ring which I happily wore.

A few weeks ago he was contacted about going to work for a bank 10 times the size of his old organization. I texted him and asked if he was getting a new title and he said no. When I replied "too bad" he asked why.
I told him I was still waiting for my upgrade and that I was supposed to get it with the last promotion.
Without missing a beat he said let's go shopping for "rocks".
We did and got it last night.

I tried on halos thinking that I would love the vintage but updated look.
Unfortunately they didn't look good on me at all.
I also tried on different shapes of stones. My original was round brilliant and my three stone is princess cut. I tried on marquise, oval and pear. I would have like to try on an Asscher cut but he didn't have any.
In the end I had it narrowed down to two rings.
Tiffany style six prong and a four prong set on a simple diamond band.
It is a carat a third but the table looked the same as the carat and a half and the color was better even though the other was a more expensive diamond.

beautiful!! congrats

I will get some pictures today with some of the bands I already had and play with some stacks. I may just wear it with my grandmother's original wedding band for now.
I also tried on a carat and 3/4ths. My husband and I both commented that it looked like I was playing dress up. It was so big on me it didn't look real.
