My new bag stinks :(

OP: I have tried two things that work for ANY smell. 1) whole roasted coffee beans. Put these beans in your bag, zip it up, put bag in a large plastic bag, store for a couple of days. The smell will be gone. You'll have a smell of coffee beans but that won't last and it's not covering up the musty smell.

The other thing if you have access to it: expose the bag to some ozone. I have a friend who runs a business "staging" condos. He uses ozone to clean out condos/apartments and in heavy situations like a fire or flood where there's mildew and mold - a couple hours of ozone and not only is the smell gone but every spore is gone too. Good luck.
Shibumi, did you mean to use an ozone generator? If so, do you know if it could damage the bag?

Hi Deb
Nothing happened, I still have the bag, it is smelling stronger than ever because I stored it away, if I leave it out the smell overpowers my room. I'm pretty much stuck with it, I'd never resell without advising of a smell like this, and to do so would mean a huge loss... I'm just trying Nilodour oil at the moment, worth a try, will lock it away for another few days and see if I have any luck.
Did you use the Nilodor Tap A Drop? If so, did you put the drops directly on the lining? Any directions are most appreciated. I also just purchased an LV that reeks of mildew. Even my BF who has a poor sense of smell thinks its gross!

Thanks JustAgUrL. I don't think they provide service though. They only sell protective products. But I just bought a bag and it stink of mold/mildew so I'm trying to get the nasty odor out.

actually, I think they do... They are a service that also sells products...

Also, there is one I am ordering... It is by a site called Leather Doctor.

Here is a Forum where you can ask the owner how to fix certain bag issues,
he is great at answering in great detail.
He sells the Leather products needed for different issues.

Just to update, I used nilodour that softened the smell, and had the bag professionally cleaned at LV, and it's perfect now. My SA said it just smelt like an old closet, but by the time he got it, after using nilodour, it was 90% gone anyway. It came back perfect, so I was very lucky it wasn't mold considering paypal did nothing to stand by me with the transaction.
Was it expensive to have it professionally cleaned by LV?

The bag is coated canvas and its the interior lining that seems to smell. Do you think they can still help or is it only for leather products.

It is extremely difficult to remove odors from coated canvas. I've been successful at removing odors from nearly everything except for that. I was able to improve it greatly but I could never get rid of it completely.

Thanks Whateve. Is it worth it to purchase LV coated canvas bags or do they all generally end up forming mildew?
