My Mom's Grandmother's handbag. Doesn't get a lot more vintage than this. ;)

Hi!

So my Mom is "cleaning out her closet" and she came across her Grandmother's handbag again. She asked me what to do with it. We haven't determined what to do with it, but I thought it was an opportunity to share a true, family owned and passed on vintage handbag. No visible brand, just a rather small, vintage, black leather handbag. Considered its age it's in pretty good shape I think. Only a small cut and some wear and tear on the handles. The closure still snaps with a loud and distinctive "click".

Now I'd be interested in some more information, and I'd highly appreciate it if anyone can share some information on it's style, the button/closure or anything else about it if it looks familiar/rings a bell.

Country of origin is most likely Belgium - unless it was imported.

Kind regards,
Oliver

I can't help identify it but I want to thank you for sharing it. I love it! What a classic, understated and polished beauty!
Such a stark contrast with some of the louder modern designs we see today; this bag is so simple and so functional, yet also remarkably chic.

I love that it's been preserved through the generations! It's in fantastic shape, particularly given its age. Whatever you decide to do with it (If it were me, I would get those straps fixed so that someone in the family could use it in honour of my great-grandmother, but you may have better ideas for it), I love that you're holding something that carries the stories of her life and connects both you and your mother to her. Very special indeed.

It's a very smart 1960s handbag and a classic of its day. Very nice example. Even from the pics it seems well made and with good attention to finish and detail. Great find and with such wonderful sentimental value.

The handles probably need replacing if any of your relatives want to carry it again on a regular basis.

Thank you! For now we're simply going to hang onto it. My SO is not too keen on the chance of using/owning it. But it's definitely not getting sold or given away to "strangers". Since I do have some cousins, we might ask them.

Thank you for your analysis! I honestly had no idea what to look for.

If we decide to follow through and ask my cousins and one says yes, I'll make sure the handles are replaced/repaired.

Kind regards,
Oliver

I can see the embroidered handkerchief, a tube of lipstick and a pack of chewing gum inside. Also, see some beautiful gloves on the hands while carrying it.

So lovely and elegant.
