Hello everyone
On Feb 20, 2023 I went to Dr.Nguyen Duy Huan in Ha Noi, Vietnam to get my jaw shaved and chin relocated all by myself. I hide this informations from my family and hope they will never find out until I see them face to face again lol
I did not get my cheek bone removed because I did not want any sagging. Beside, though my cheekbones are considered "big", they are still in the range of being attractive to the western standard of beauty, for the asian standard, I would say my cheekbone is average, if I get it removed it would be better but if I don't then it's not too bad
My Journey
At around 11 pm on Feb 17 I landed at Noi Bai Airport, then went straight to my AirBnB near the old quarter (a very touristy spot) and slept because I just went through a 16 hours flight with 3 hours layover. The next day, which is 2/18 I went and get my consultation with Dr.Huan at Bac Ha international hospital at 2 pm, I did not put down any deposit but I am scheduled to get my surgery done on 2/20, which is on a Monday.
The consultation:
Along with removing bone, removing buccal fat and jaw muscle were also added in as well with no extra charges.
At the consultation, the Dr was very soft spoken, he mentions that all of my features on my face are quite asymmetrical (yikes lol), he mentioned that the chin on my right was longer and the jaw on the left was bigger which is what I want to get fixed. I also was considering getting my double eyelids done as well, but I backed out of it because the dr recommend that rather then getting my eyes done, I should go for the nose. He was not pushy about it though, I told him that eventhough my nose is not perfect, I do like my nose a lot. To be honest, I was afraid that the double eyelids was gonna end up making my eyes look very round and dolly. He said that he will removed some of the jaw bone and muscle. He would also push my chin and little back and insert one of the piece of bone in between so my chin can be just a tiny bit longer. He did not do the T cutting bone method on my chin as he said that it was not needed. I told him clearly to NOT take my buccal fat out, only my muscle because I do not have that much fat on my face, and I have been seeing too many celebrities getting that done and their face aged like 10 years
On that same day, I also went and get my blood taken, my heart monitored, and lungs checked and my skull ct scanned since he operates right inside the hospital. It was around 5 pm when I went back to the Airbnb so I went and book myself a massage section at La'essence
Enjoy my time before surgery:
On Sunday the 2/19, I was just enjoying myself in the city with one of the dr's assistant who I have been keeping in contact to book the surgery with. We went and visit a historical site that I do not remember the name to it (lol) and ate Bun Dau Mam Tom. She was so fun and sweet to be around. We separated at around 1 pm so I went a book myself a massage at La'essence spa again lol, to be honest it is probably the best massages I have ever had compared to the states, and it was only around 1200000 vnd ( around $63) for 90 minutes of massage, and it includes a FREE MEAL. I have to enjoy it before I can't lay facedown anymore. Since it was the weekends I went and walked around the Hoan Kiem lake (they blocked off all the vehicles so I was able to walk to almost anywhere to get my stuff) and started enjoying my last solid food meal before stop eating/drinking around 10 pm.
Operation day:
I woke up at around 5 am and got ready, I took a shower, washed my face but I did not put any skincare on. I went to the hospital at 8 am to get ready for my surgery, filled in some documents and walked to the operational room. The people in the room was so nice to me, there was this sweet older lady that was re assuring me that everything was gonna be ok. To be honest, I was so nervous because I am completely by myself on this journey. Unlike Korea, I don't know anyone else that is also going to Vietnam to get surgery , sure I speak the language but I have been living in the US for so long that I forgot how to interact with Vietnamese people again. The lady inject me with anesthetics and I got knocked out immediately
When I woke up, thats when I realized that I actually went under, it was a strange realization. They wheeled me into this room to monitored my condition for 6 hours, to be honest it was the worst hours after the operation because they shoved a catheter up my urine hole and I had this constant need to pee feeling for the first 2 hours, but the good things was I went back to sleep and just ignore that awful feeling. I was not supposed to get it taken out until the 6 hours was up and I kept nagging them so they took it out at around 5 pm (I got out at 2 pm). It was kinda disoriented because I was still high on anesthetics. They then wheeled me to my room, they gave me porridges and this syringe to feed myself. They also gave me an ensure bottle as well. I did not have the strength to eat but I wanted water really badly but I was given this small cup of water. I ended up being in and out of my sleep, and woke up at around 4 am the next day. Surprising I was able to talk so I ft my BF. They gave me this IV drip with Ketamine and Acupan to help with my pain, and I just sat on that same bed until 4 pm on 2/21 to get discharged.
The nurses were so attentive, whenever I request them they come and doesn't show any form of annoyance, which I appreciated a lot because I heard of stories where the nurse were total b*tchs in Korea, they helped me to use the restroom, help me changed my clothes (i was on my period too so the leakage was inevitable) by the end of the day I was so stinky lol. Some of the dr's assistant went into the room to visit to see how I was doing, they taught me how to keep the wound in my mouth clean and how to wrap my face
After:
I went back to my Airbnb and the first thing I did was stocking up on the liquid food, I bought a bunch of porridge but it was too thick so me, I could have diluted it with some water but it was too much work so I ended up just getting a bunch of Ensure, drink like 2 bottles per meal. I haven't gotten out of the room since and here I am writing this
Here are the photos, the first 2 are before operation, you can see on the 2nd photo how asymmetrical my face was. The first show that my face was quite broad. The 3rd is a couple hours after operation with the drainages, the 4th is when I got my things taken out. Last is when I got back home to my airbnb, you can see how greasy my face was, the last 3 photos are all on the same day, which is day 1
2nd (2/22) day I kinda just stayed in my airbnb and just went on social media, to be honest it is a little depressing but I just did not feel like walking outside with my head wrap (I have to wear this 24 hours until the 5th day). I felt so uncomfortable because I was constipated, but then around 8 pm I started getting diarrhea and it continue to today (3rd day). 3rd is no different from the 2nd day, however, it is a little bit harder to talk, I don't think I should be talking anyway so I kinda just ft my bf and just stare at each other lol. I have to go outside to get more Natri Clorid to rinse my mouth since I can't really use tooth bruh to brush my teeth. I probably going to do that after finishing this
Pain lever wise:
Surprisingly my pain level is very minimal. There was only discomfort on the area where he removed my muscles, it felt like I over used my muscle so just mild aches. My chin on the other hand is weird. It's quite sensitives and if I opened my mouth too much the pressure of the head wrap would be on it and it gave me this sharp pain, it is not unbearable though. I would say the lever is 2/10 for discomfort more than pain.
Apparently I was one of the lucky few that doesn't experience any shore throat from the tube during surgery. The only discomfort I felt is went they removed the drainage from the throat, it was just slightly painful to turn but it was not unbearable and it is not painful anymore today
Swolleness:
Today that I am writing this it'd be the 3rd day, and I feel like my swollen is still the same since day 1. Maybe it went down a little bit but I will take a picture tonight before I went into the shower. It is usually get worse on day 3 or 4 so we will see if it increase or decrease tomorrow.
I will keep updating this thread with my results and progress
