I recently visited London, and while we were in this huge room with the giraffe's, I got to talking to this couple who had boys around the same age as my daughter (3 yo).

I happen to say to the woman, "WOW! Look at that ring!" It was really big, and coordinated perfectly with her outfit, etc.

Anyway, the next thing I knew, we were done talking, and the woman taps me on the shoulder, and says "You can have my ring." And I was like "What? Are you serious?" and she said "No, take it, it's nothing big." and so we talked a little more, they were from Dubai, and I thanked them profusely!

So, I wore it to the wedding I went to London for, but mostly it's just a fun story. I'm assuming it's 100% costume, but boy, it IS heavy!

So, here is my modeling pic!:smile1:

Thanks for reading.

omg, i love that ring! i have recently gotten into large, ornate rings for my right ring finger, and that is just perfect!

what a generous individual she is for doing that.

ot—but a similar thing happened to me when visiting my aunt & uncle a few months ago in nyc.

my uncle recently bought her a 7 carat (yes, 7 carats) princess cut, gorgeous ring a few years ago, and although it was exquisite (like an ice cube), i always remembered her ruby and diamond yellow gold ring that she wore for years.

i asked her whatever happened to that ring, and not only was she surprised that i remembered this ring to the very last detail, she was thrilled because she then turns around and says "you know what, i'm going to send it to you." needless to say, i didn't take her seriously because i thought for sure seeing as she has a daughter and two granddaughters that she would want to pass it down to them.

i received it in the mail a few weeks later.

it was really worn down and missing some stones, so i immediately took it to my jeweler to replace the stones and rework the setting (because the gold was worn down on the top).

i can't wait to get it back and i will post pics of it in another thread to show you all.

so yes, excellent story, op!

p.s. sorry to hijack.

that was really nice of her! i love the color of it. agreed w/ the above posters, it does have a great story to it! maybe one day you can give it to somebody if they ever mention how lovely it is .. that is, if you ever get sick of it! sort of like an ongoing cycle.

Correct me if I'm wrong. From what I know, it's a cultural thing with them ( Middle East/Arabian culture). If you compliment them on something they own, they are obliged to give to you the item. Which is why people who are aware of this custom are very careful in giving compliments when visiting houses there :)
