BF bought it at SGD 356 on 27 feb just before price increase. Love the classic design!

My SA was really nice, my BF was wearing slippers and shorts to the store, but she still showed us around because I asked her about different sterling silver earring they have in store. She is willing to let me try on the earrings too. At the same time we also looked at the Tiffany diamonds with Tiffany setting. It was really really nice and sparkly.

We also asked for the price. I attached it here. I want to ask:
1) price comparison between HK, US and SG
2) With bare eyes can you see the color differences? compare D To I.
3) The lifetime warranty what exactly is covers?
4) it does not have GIA or AGS certificate, can we bring the diamond to get it certified elsewhere? Whats the cost?

prices are in SGD.
1SGD = 1.45USD

US is cheaper than Asia and US is most likely the cheapest country because it is the home country of Tiffany. As for the colour, it depends on how colour sensitive you are. I have two Tiffany rings in I colour and they face up white. For a size around one carat, I personally would be comfortable with an I. At the boutique, you will see the difference if you put a D stone beside an I but in reality, you will not be wearing an I stone beside a D stone on the same hand.

thanks for the advice and reminding me that I wont be wearing it side by side. Now I am thinking whats more impt to me the color or carat size. G 0.8 or I 0.9 usually ppl will see the carat size at first side right?

Go for the best cut and if both stones have the same amount of sparkle, I would personally pick size over colour. Anyway, you really need to see them side by side to decide which one sparkles more. Don't rush it and ask if your SA can bring in a couple of more rings for you to view. Find out if you can get a one carat I VS1/VS2 for under $20,000.

My ring was purchased many years ago and I don't know how much it has appreciated. I just checked the Tiffany US site and it says that one carat starts at US$12,600.

Hi Michie,

Congrats on the heart earrings, what a great present!

As for the colour difference, for anything around a carat, an I colour at Tiffanys will still be a very white and beautiful stone, especially in the round brilliant cut. If youre trying to maximize carat weight with your budget, H or I colours are great options. Once its on your hand, people cannot tell.

The Tiffany Warranty guarantees that the stone they sell you is the stone that it is. For example, if it is a D colour and you get an independent report that says its not a D colour and its something lower, then they will have to replace your stone or give you your money back. Now if you lose your diamond in an accident or you drop your ring and the diamond chips, etc... you will have to pay to get it repaired. It isnt a warranty against wear and tear. Now, cleaning and polishing of the platinum is always free.

1) price comparison between HK, US and SG

Cannot comment on this.

2) With bare eyes can you see the color differences? compare D To I.

Side by side you will absolutely see the difference. However, that will not be visible in say a D next to an E, but likely D next to an F, and most definitely a D next to an I. On their own, unless you are color sensitive it is unlikely the AVERAGE person will notice the color unless they were REALLY looking for the warmth. My personal "sweet spot" is an H.

The biggest difference is going to be in stones with cut quality differences. You will notice a difference between a well cut D and a poorly cut D, and in Tiffany you will find poorly cut stones, you have to look at numbers--find the cheat sheet in the FAQ thread and look at stones that meet the numbers.

3) The lifetime warranty what exactly is covers?

Cannot speak to that. My understanding is that it really only is a "guarantee" that it is what they say it is. Not that it's going to cover a loss or damage. I have found that polishing of platinum and gold is free depending which store you go to. Cleaning is always free but I do not trust the SAs to not damage my ring--I've watched how they handle those, and frankly, I'll do it myself at home.

4) it does not have GIA or AGS certificate, can we bring the diamond to get it certified elsewhere? Whats the cost?

Unless you have the stone removed from the setting, you cannot get the stone regraded by GIA or AGS. Both labs grade the stone based on weight. Unseating that stone making it no longer a single "intact piece" is detrimental to the value of the piece, I highly recommend that you DO NOT do that. It is simply not worth it because it will devalue it and risks the safety of the stone because you're weakening the prongs removing and reseating that stone, AND it will not look the same if you do that.

Thanks you! I think I will be going for a color I. Now I know whats the warranty about.

Thanks for the info on the GIA certification. May I know what is the link to the FAQ thread?
