My first and probably last Botkier bag... so disappointed

:-s Yeah, it is also a painful lesson for me too. Next time, I will definitely makes sure I at least see non-official photos of the bag that I consider getting before I splurge. I shared this story in the hope that others would not make the same mistake when doing internet shopping.
It is a very bitter feeling. I paid $415 for mine and it just sits, a reminder of how stupid I was to buy from a company that won't allow returns. What's strange is I tried to cancel the order even before it shipped and they wouldn't allow me. I will not deal with botkier ever again.

It's too bad that this happened to you. I have had the same thing happen with another designer and it soured me for a while. I was unable to return my "fugly" bag although it was a direct purchase from them. I got a nice letter, but my mistake cost me $445 because I could only sell it for $200 on Bonanzle.

Try to give it some perspective - it's not Botkier's fault. Alice Astor should take responsibility if they posted incorrect photos.

The unfortunate truth is, as bag lovers, every one of us will eventually buy something that is a horrendously ugly financial mistake.

I finally see a photo online(Conor Large Shoulder) that resembles more to the bag you received:

I feel the official photo on Botkier and Aster Alice is misleading because it looks more like the Conor Satchel. I no longer trust online pictures. When I feel like buying a handbag now, I always search the web for modeling pictures before I buy them.

Thanks for showing me this. I had another look, and find an image of the satchel version:

My first thought was this the style of the bag that was displayed in AA's website, obviously in another color!

Then I had another look in Botiker's website:

Satchel version:

Shoulder version:

http://www.botkier.com/handbags/conor-large-shoulder

Unfortunately, AA is using Botkier's official image. I'm speechless, as it does not resemble the product in any form or shape.

I contacted both AA and Botkier, and either is willing to do anything. So I'm stuck with a bag I hate.

That's the risk we have to assume when we buy handbags online without touching and feeling them. I've also been disappointed by various brands, but since I almost never pay full price, I normally just choose to sleep on it, or give away the bags to those who would love them more than I do. But with experience, I am now able to make smarter purchases by searching reviews and additional pictures to examine the real size and shape of the bag before I hit the order button.

Exactly what I do as well. I am not in the US so it makes even refundable/exchangable purchases risky because return shipping is high and the customs issue same as the OP.

OP sorry for your disappointment!

I just received my 2nd Botkier bag and I love it the leather is beautiful. Iam sorry to hear that happened how frustrating!!! I think the website where you purchased it should take responsibility.

OP, I am so sorry you were mislead. The website you ordered from apparently showed a photo of the satchel, even though the wording was for the shoulder bag. I would proceed based on the fact that they posted the wrong photo, and therefore mailed you a different bag than the one you were led to believe you were ordering. I think you should press the issue for false advertising...it's not a matter of taste, but of being mislead!
