There were threads about losing pets, training pets, traveling with pets.. We lost our very, very beloved PreciousPerfectPrincessFatttiePieCowCat several months ago and we still have a gigantic menagerie losing CowCat has left an empty spot. She went everywhere with us, home improvement stores, bookstores, craft stores, farmer's markets, and one of my favourite things is she'd even go hiking with us and trot at our side until she got too tired after a few miles and we could tuck her into one of our packs. Anyway, seemed like a place where people would understand what pets can mean to a home.
And our CowCat-

Our other cats walk on lead too and sometimes they let us know when they want to go outside but CowCat expected to go for a walk twice a day and would stubbornly wait at the door and bat the bells that hang on the door knob and insist. Trying to get back into the habit of taking them out regularly rather than only occasionally and randomly like we have been these last few months. The forum's motivated me, so thank you. Going to try and get new harness/leash/collar sets sewn for all of them this weekend since the young ones have grown and of course I'll feel bad if only some get new harnesses ;) So, thank you forum of people who are crazy in love with their pets.

Oh so cute, what an enrichment!! I am sorry for you loss, I recently lost my baby too

When I was very young we had a cat too that wanted to go fro walks besides us - when she was too tired she returned home and waited somewhere in the front area of our place. Such a cool behaviour

Where the heart is
Oh Querencia, what a beautiful girl she was and what a wonderful life she had.....I am so sorry for your loss, but happy that CowCat had such a peaceful and content life with you.

I have considered getting walking jackets (they seem better than the harnesses I have) for my 2 so I can take them places but I dont know if they would like it, they dont seem keen to be outside now they are officially allowed out on their own. Plus the bf would probably disown me if I started taking the cats for a walk. I told him about car harness attachments the other day and he looked at me like I was mad!

Did you do this with your cat from an early age? I wonder if some cats dont mind new places or if all can grow to get used to it.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :hugs: CowCat was beautiful and she sounds like she was an amazing kitty. I love that she was so bold and adventurous - such a unique personality. I completely understand how heartbreaking it is to lose such a special friend. I lost my Rossi kitty (the grey and white kitty in my avatar) over a year ago and I still miss her terribly.

Querencia, she was beautiful. So sorry she's no longer with you, but you have some fabulous memories, if that's any consolation.
We recently moved and we walk one of our cats on a lead. (Well, it's a bit of thin rope attached to his collar, but it serves the same purpose.) I take him for walks out the front at least once per day, sometimes with the dog, and he's taken very well to being on a lead. Every single time he urinates over where the dog urinates...gotta mark his territory in the new 'hood.

Wanted to say thank you for everyone's kind words. I was sincere when I said this place motivated me. Funny that a site devoted to fashion somehow gave me the final nudge to get myself together with them.
We're going through the lineup and making sure everyone is completely caught up with vet care.
Turns out that was helpful emotionally since everyone that's had contact with the menagerie members has commented on how well cared for and how well socialised they are. I have been an absolute hermit. It would sound like I jested if I said to what extent and I was very concerned about how my pets would fair because of it. They are all indoor only unless on lead outside and I was afraid about their poor socialisation .....But, they're doing great. No one had any concern about their level of care or well being.

Life's been an incredible muddle for me lately and it was good to get the nudge of watching a community that cares to be on the path of straightening out at least one thing that has weighed heavily on my mind, having my pets sorted out.

And on the light note- they're all getting their harnesses and leashes made. Unfortunately none of them think too highly of all the effort that's gone into straightening things out and getting them taken care of. They are enjoying getting back outside for walks again though.

Everyone's story of walking cats made me laugh and smile, thanks everyone.
