BLugenie thanks for articulating in such simple terms exactly what went through my mind when I impulsively bought my Gucci two months ago! I was so ashamed of it although I loved my bag and thought it was perfect for a long long time to use...
Bag-hangover...I love it!
Plus, just treasure your bag all the time whilst remembering how much you deserve it since it's your own hard-earned money. I've saved the money back to make up for it afterwards, and I'll tell you, it was worth every dollar and every minute of the agony!
^^LOL GenYbagaddict, glad you came to terms with your Gucci bag! I think we all experience those morning after, reaching for aspirin, sweating bullets, what-have-I-done moments - bags or otherwise!! :shame: 
My new rationale for purchases is to equate price with longevity - not just longevity of style but also age-appropriate to wear the bag. I don't want to feel like a fashion-victim soon after dropping a bundle. Here are my current guidelines:
2 years - $500 or so
5 years - $1000 or so
10 years - it's okay to spend $1500+
