Hello everyone! My boyfriend and I have been up and down the east coast looking for an authentic antique engagement ring. After about twenty stops we came across this beauty! It was traded by a customer to this specific jeweler because she had no attachment to her grandmothers ring. Any fellow antique lovers who can provide a guess on what period this is from? From what I gather this seems to be 1 carat old European cut(?), well worn, possibly platinum (so the jeweler tells me but no makers mark), and hand made (the decorations are far from perfect!)....(although I understand there are a lot of good reproductions)! My guess is Edwardian....regardless, I am in love with it. Although I wanted an old ring with a story...I’m okay with it just having our story!

I love the ring! And I love that it will be your own story :)

Congratulations! Beautiful ring! I would say it could be made up to 1914. After then white gold was available and used often.

From my personal experience antique jewelry usually doesn’t come with a story. I’ve purchased my fair share over the years and find owners hold on a piece more with a story because they feel connected to it. Your best bet is to find a piece with a date and that becomes the story.

I really can’t offer a real idea of when it’s from based on the pictures, maybe 1910s to 1930s, but a platinum ring would be a lot heavier than a gold ring of a similar size. Does it feel heavier in your palm than you would expect something its size to? A good jeweler would have it tested and know for sure what the metal is before selling it. From the pics, if it is old, then I would guess platinum based on the color as they didn’t palladium plate white gold back then.
