Must I Refund?

I sold a pair of sandals a couple of weeks ago, and now I have received an email from the buyer stating that they are too small. She says she took them to a retailer who told her that they measure a 9 and not 9 1/2. Well they are sized a 9 1/2, and they did fit me when I tried them on, and that is my size. ( I sold them as pre owned, not brand new of course) She has not asked for a refund yet but I'm quite sure that is coming.
Of course I stated no refunds/be sure of your size in the auction, but I know that doesn't mean anything in Pay Pal land.

What should I do?

since she didn't ask for a refund (yet) I'd just wait it out and see if she comes back looking for one. If she asks for one sometimes it's easier to just do the refund and move on..I am a reseller and state that I don't take returns but I have taken back sandals in the past when they didn't fit just because I know shoes are harder to buy online. Different styles fit differently. Anyway, just wait and see if she asks for anything first - I wouldn't offer it up..Good luck!

Depending on the brand, a size can fit differently. But you didn't lie in your listing, you stated the correct size, so you are not obligated to refund her. I can't see PayPal refunding her either unless she says you misrepresented the item in your listing.

If she asks for a refund, I'd kindly let her know that you don't accept returns.

Okay I may not be much help because I agree with both posters. If you don't want to refund don't. Of course she could file a SNAD, but it really is not one. Sounds like you described it accurately from what I can tell. So there for it is NOT "significantly not as described." In the past I have taken back shoes, but normally I try to work it out with the buyer first. I politely let them know that they are that size etc. I guess the squeaky wheel gets oiled because if they really throw a fit I refund. I don't want a neg just because some shoes didn't fit.

i like your usage of words 'must i' and 'pay pal land' heh

i think if you wrote the size and its labeled as such you stand a good chance. everyone knows that shoe size varies with brands. some run true to size, some run small, etc etc. its the buyer's responsibility to know the fit of the brand that she/he is purchasing and if, they have any doubts of their purchase they should have asked prior to bidding.

Everyone's advice is greatly appreciated- thanks!
She hasn't asked for a refund yet, so I have a bit more time to think about it. My gut feeling is that I should not have to refund her money, because she should know her size in this brand before bidding.
I don't want a neg, of course, but I am not afraid of one.

If they are the correct size (9 1/2), then I wouldn't take them back for a refund. That's the risk of buying shoes online. Different brand shoes can run a bit bigger or smaller, and without trying them on, one can never be sure they will fit. You're not Nordstrom or Saks. The buyer took that risk when she chose to buy a pair of shoes on eBay vs. a department store.

I totally agree that the reason people buy on ebay/bonanzle, etc.. is to get a better deal and we're not department stores. I know most buyers feel like they should be getting better than dept. store customer service!! But I am a reseller and I do try and work with people the best I can. I don't buy shoes online unless I know I can return or I know that those particular ones will fit - but that's just me (unless they're dirt cheap and I'd be okay taking the risk). Like I said I let a customer return sandals that she just wasn't comfortable in because I wanted to not because I needed to.
But I still say to wait and see if she asks for something and go from there..Then do what you are comfortable with because the bottom line is you don't have to agree to let her return. but we all know if a buyer REALLY wants a refund there's a good chance they'll get it either thru ebay/paypal or cc..Good Luck!

When it comes to a sandal, I always ask that the seller measure the footbed for me. It's an easy enough question to ask, and sure saves a lot of hassle down the road.
I just don't understand how people don't take responsibility for the decisions they make.
Other than giving my slightly snarky comment, I have no advice for you.
I hope this works out for you....

Are the shoes stamped or marked 9 1/2? If they are, the buyer has to assume responsibility for the size.. Would not give her a refund..

I agree with hotshot. If the listing stated size 9 1/2 and the shoes have 9 1/2 on them then it's not your fault they don't fit. I don't think you should willingly refund her. I'm not even sure PayPal would decide in her favor on this one since they're not SNAD. Keep those e-mails she sent saying they're too small, just in case you need them. Good luck!
