Mozzarella on the MOOOOve.... Travel Journal

around melbourne there is a big river, the yarra river (they refer to the water as brown, and unfortunately, it is!)

there is a big square in the city where they had a lot of stuff going on for the bledisoe cup, a big australian rules football (kind of a weird cross between soccer and basketball) and the melbourne folks are really into it!

also I saw the seagulls sitting on the umbrellas and it was kind of funny...

and we took a little bike ride around the botanical gardens.... there were some nice cityscapes.

that night we took a nice walk around the casino (no pics, unfortunately) apparently australians are HUGE gamblers and love their 'pokies' (slot machines) according to the newspaper, 1/3 of all the world's slot machines are in australia!! :wtf: anyway, there was a nice view from the walkway on the way back to the hotel!

the next day we went to kangaroo island, on the southern part of australia. hazelnut was so amazed by the gorgeous scenery. :wlae:

the island reminded hazelnut and mr. hazelnut a lot of kauai, very remote and picturesque. they also had a lot of 'unsealed' roads (unpaved) which meant a lot of potholes!! what a bumpy ride!!!

no kangaroos yet. I thought they'd be bounding around everywhere but no sign of one!!

We did go off on another 'unsealed' road to the lighthouse... amazing views all around.

Then hazelnut did something horrible... while trying to tkae a picture.... she dropped me into the spiky bushes below!!!! :wtf: (She says it was the wind...) But anyhoo I recovered just fine thankfully! :okay:

Little penguins (as they are called) nest up on the rocks on the beach all along the eastern coast of the island, and they come in after dark to feed their babies and to rest a bit. It was VEEEEERY hard to take photos of the little guys at night be hazelnut tried very hard. The reddish glow on one of the photos was from the guide who shone a red light on them, which doesn't bother them too much.

Finally hazelnut just gave up and took a pic of some stuffed ones in the information center. :roflmfao:

we took a guided tour onto the beach, and a baby (about 12 mo) seal came up to us.... super close! it was awesome!!! he played around and we took so many pictures!!!

the sad part is the guide says he is quite small for his age, so he might not make it to adulthood ....

ok one last one of the seals!

we saw another lighthouse, and then we went hiking in the rain to admiral's arch... it was quite cold and windy, hazelnut was complaining 'where is the stupid arch' when we finally rounded a corner and there it was!!

the upside to all the rain is that it made for some great rainbows!!
