Most versatile?

I have sold some handbags and I have saved enough to buy a new bag. My collection is very small after selling the bags I was no longer using. I now own the Neverfull mm de, Pochette de, Black Gucci Soho Disco. I also own a Black Balenciaga Day and a Black Mulberry Mitzy hobo and various size Longchamp le Pliage bags. I am 5”3 with small body frame. I don’t wear designer bags to work during the week, only at weekends, holidays and travel to nice resorts.
There are two bags that I always wanted to purchase over the last three years. I cannot decide which is a better purchase. The two I am considering are the Montaigne bb in empreinte noir or a Chanel Woc. I want something versatile that I can wear for dinners, fun shopping, going out, travel. I am also considering an empreinte Speedy and a less expensive wallet on chain from Gucci.

Which would you choose?
Montaigne bb empreinte noir
Chanel Woc
Or Speedy b25 empreinte noir and a Gucci wristlet or Gucci Woc.

I voted for the Montaigne BB because it is a beautiful bag, very chic and stylish. I did buy this bag once and then return only because I couldn't handle the open top.. I still think about it and may still buy it again one day.. I substituted Any thing WOC doesn't work for me as I carry too much. Speedy emp is beautiful too, but I personally find speedy style a little casual... Montaigne BB (to me) just looks better made and that little bit more stylish. Good luck.

I'm roughly the same size as you and never ever consider the Chanel woc, the chain is too long (I know it can be fixed with ribbons), never use the multiple card slots and not spacious enough. I would pick Montaigne and or speedy if you're happy with the wear of empreinte.

It sounds like you truly want either that Montaigne bb or Chanel WOC; the speedy and Gucci WOC sound like an afterthought (pardon me if I’m wrong; I do love Gucci, too!). I would get the Montaigne. I’m on a Chanel high right now and while I love the brand, I found the WOC to be really tiny. I found it hard to fit my cell phone and keys in it; you can, but it’s a bit of work. If you want a small Chanel, you’re better off spending a little more for the Chanel Mini Square or Rectangular.

The Montaigne BB is gorgeous and you can transition from day to night with that bag easily. Get that one and if you still want Chanel, save for the Chanel Mini later. Lol.

Hi Rani! I would get the Montaigne BB. It is such a gorgeous bag and very versatile. It looks so elegant handheld and so cute and easygoing crossbody. I plan to get it too at some point when I decide to narrow down my collection and possibly sell some bags. I have thought many times about the Chanel WOC but it is so tiny that I know I wouldn't use it as much as I'd want to because it would be a bit of work trying to fit everything in and then juggling everything when I wanted to take something out. I also really love the Empreinte Speedy but the long strap has held me back, since it only has 2 pieces instead of 3, like the canvas Speedies.

So I have a WOC. I love this little gem. However, like someone else said, getting your keys and phone arranged just so in it can be done, but there’s really no other room. I only carry it when I don’t need extra space while running errands or evening out. I haven’t looked at the Montaigne BB before, but I have looked at the Montaigne MM several times. I couldn’t get past the handles while wearing it with the shoulder strap. I don’t want to keep them tucked in the bag for fear the glaze will get cracked or the handles damaged by getting stuff in and out of the bag. However, I love the look of this bag and I think the BB size is so cute! I also think it’s dressier than the Speedy B empriente, but that little outside pocket on the Speedy would come in handy. If you’re really wanting a Chanel with a little more space, the Mini would be a better option. It would be another$1,000 but then you have a bag you can use every day and have more room than a WOC. Sorry, I’m not much help on the decision.

Thank you, you have read me well! I think I want something more elegant this time and less casual. I'm missing a nice black handbag with hand carry option from my collection. I'm leaning now towards the Montaigne bb.

Hi MokeyLV, I have been a fan of the Montaigne bb for the last 3 years, I should have just bought it the first time I tried it on. It would be exciting if you bought one too! I was interested in the Chanel Woc, since I wanted one special piece that I could use when travelling, but maybe I would use the Montaigne more. It seems both the Empreinte Speedy and Chanel Woc have a strap that is too long. Maybe I will buy the Montaigne bb and save up for a Felicie.

Thank you love2learn, I should do some research on the Chanel mini. It does seem though from the clubhouse, that most Montaigne mm owners seem happy with their bag. I have heard some people complain about how the handles attach, so something to consider.

My vote is for Speedy b25 empreinte noir because its zip-top closure makes it the most travel-friendly, hence, versatile bag. It can be dressed up or down and carried multiple ways. My 2nd choice would be Montaigne but after experiencing open styles like this (ie. Fendi 2jours) while it is awesome for easy access, there's no security in large crowds and no protection for your SLGs in case the weather turns suddenly. Constantly checking your bag's contents while out and about is such a hassle and takes the fun away from travelling.

Montaigne BB gets my vote because I'm currently eyeing this bag myself in the Monogram because I think the canvas will hold up longer and the strap on the side seem better aligned when wearing. The Woc is way too small. Good luck!! Xx

I love the look of the Montaigne bb, but please try it on to be sure the strap placement works for you. I didn’t like the way you have to fold the handheld straps in to use the crossbody. The straps and handles were too cumbersome for me. It is a beauty though. Have you looked at any other brands. The Céline nano luggage looks nice and easy to use. I just saw that one. It’s been around for awhile but I just happened to look at it. Ones in different leathers. Soooo many choices. Good luck. All are beautiful.

It’s worth looking at. I have the Saint Laurent sac de jour in baby souple leather and absolutely love using it. It might be another option as well. It has a center zippered closing and the rest is open. Not sure if you are sold on Louis Vuitton or not. I decided to branch away from LV for a bit. So many beanbags out there. Good luck to you.
