2018 is coming to a close. Yoogi’s Closet, a popular online reseller, just released its list of the most popular bags for 2018. I was more than a little surprised at the list - I didn’t agree with some that were included and felt others were overlooked.

I’m sure there is some list somewhere with sales data or media mentions to determine which bags actually were the most popular for the year. But, I thought it would be fun to discuss which ones we tPF feet-on-the-street experts felt were on everyone’s arms and tongues... and why!

Share your opinions on this list and give your perspective on what was popular in 2018!

I cant help but be somewhat skeptical of online stores making "best of" lists of the things they themselves sell. The results of this thread will be much more interesting.

I felt that Alessandro-Michele-Gucci had a good year... And I expect loads of people spiked the sales of Celine before Mr. Slimane will do his thing with *cough*violate*cough* it.

I don't quite agree but I guess the list doesn't reflect the most sough after bags like Chanel mini.
But, by definition, shouldn’t it?

I would think the mini would have been on the list. I’m very surprised to see the Celine mini luggage. I can’t recall seeing one shown on the “what handbag am I wearing today thread” or revealed on the “latest handbag I bought” thread. And, I’ve never seen one in real life.

I also think that while they can’t be bought in large quantities the Birkin is still quite popular.

I'd agree with Yoogi's list, especially the Marmont line and the LV PM, and most are mini/small bags and no totes. TPF represents a very tiny fraction of items that are hot w/the general population. TPF revals and threads/Instagram/sponsored bloggers are not reliable sources imo. The $$$$ numbers don't lie, that's what people are buying most. I do see much more handbag variety on Facebook groups and IRL than I ever encounter here on the forum. I think Fashionphile did a similar list last year and their #1 and #2 were Speedy and NF.

I would agree with the list from a social media/influencer standpoint. Some of these bags were gifted to influencers, like the Dior saddlebag. Other bags like the Gucci Marmont, Celine Nano, LV Palm Springs, and Saint Laurent LouLou were very popular with influencers and I think because of that, Yoogis may have seen a spike in purchases of those bags? I can believe it--a lot of influencers have a younger following and it may be more cost efficient for them to buy preloved.

Some of these bags may not be popular on TPF. I'm generalizing but it might have to do with people here being more well informed about handbags, quality issues, and wanting to go for classics versus what's hot on instagram or youtube.

If a brand isn’t talked about here, I think some posters are likely to “sit on their hands” rather than be the person to bring it up. We (humans) are kind of prone to follow the crowd - here at TPF too.

I hadn’t thought of that.

For me, if a brand isn’t talked about here, I may never hear of it as I don’t have bag loving close friends and I don’t follow instagrammers or youTubers.
