Modifying Vintage Gucci

Hi all. I have this vintage Gucci Accessories pouch, but I don't get nearly as much use out of it as I'd like, so I'd like to add a strap if possible. I've seen on YouTube that a few people have taken a stitch out of the sides of Louis Vuitton compeignes, to insert a D ring to add a strap. I was wondering if I could do the same with this one ? I'd rather not punch a hole in the canvas to add a screw in ring because it's in great condition and I'm scared I'll ruin it . I've attached some photos. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If you will remain the end user I'm in favour. If even thinking of re-selling then I'd say probably leave.

I'm unfamiliar about the LVs, but can't you just ask your local cobbler to punch a hole and fix a metal rim within the tab (eyelet grommet). Then you had a chain one day, a clip held leather strap the next etc. If you remove one stitch you would be weakening the entire seam.
