Just want you to see some of the difference in the way Michael Kors put his bags together over 10 years ago.

I have had this bag for about 15 years and it is still like new.

This was the original LUDLOW Drawstring Signature bag. Will show you the difference between Now and Then.

LUDLOW THEN

ROLLED HANDLES ( notice how they are attached! )

DRAWSTRING even on the SIDE POCKETS ( nice to tighten so your stuff doesn't fall out!)

MAIN DRAWSTRING IS FUNCTIONAL and WORKS!

LEATHER COVERING on the MAGNETIC SNAP

They just don't use this kind of workmanship anymore!

DETAILED CONTRAST STITCHING

LUDLOW NOW

FLAT STRAPS

NO DRAWSTRINGS ON SIDE POCKETS

DRAWSTRING is JUST DECORATIVE! Doesn't work!

NO LEATHER COVERING THE SNAP

NO CONTRAST STITCHING!

It is still a fairly nice bag, but just doesn't have the same quality. I think this applies to so many things in our lives , such as cars, furniture, you name it! I guess it has become too expensive to spend for the extra time and materials??

What really impresses me the most is the way handles are connected to the bag! Wow! What a difference! The drawsting actually works on the original. On the new one it just a prop! And the way they covered the magnetic snap with leather. You just don't see that anymore! Just wanted to share so you can see some of the differences and why I am so in love with their vintage bags! I wish they made them like this now! I sure wish they'd put the rolled handles back on them! lol!

Here is a shot of the rolled handles on the older version. Sure wish they were on the new ones. I would buy another Ludlow in a heart beat, but am too spoiled with this old one! I like my newer one OK, but ot's just not the same. I look at my newer Ludlow, and wonder what happened?? My hisband got it for me because he heard me bragging about how much I love my Ludlow, so he went to MK and got me the latest model. I was quite taken back, but it's the thought that counts.
Seems the only ones with this same quality are in the Michael Kors collection, and even they aren't like this! I know I sound like an old lady stuck in the past, but can you blame me?? lol! The difference is so distinct!

So many things(as you said) are like this now though, NOTHING is made like it used to be.. and costs and for the sake of some items quantities/sizes have dropped.

Anybody look at a Reese cup lately? lol Nice bag and i do understand the basis for the desire over vintage bags ;)

Oh, no, Cinthia, I wasn't paying attention and at first thought the mannequin was you! Lololololollllll! I thought, 'Oh, so Cinthia has blonde hair'! Lololololollllll!

They were just so well made. I know many probably like the smoother look of the newer one, and I can appreciate that, but the point is, the difference in quality! To even put leather over the magnetic snap? And the way the handles are attached?? You are right though, everything was made better in the past. Cars, furniture, everything. I have always appreciated good quality and just got spoiled with it! I wish it would come back, or we didn't have to pay so much just to have it.

I do have blonde hair! lol! I am part Swedish, German and Irish. Blonde hair, blue eyes, although much of this blonde has gone grey! lol!
