Hi,
I recently purchased the MK Gansvoort in Vanilla. I have used the bag maybe 3 times. I have to say Im so disappointed in the quality of this leather bag. I expected more from a $400 bag. I realize the color is prone to color transfer/dirt/staining. However, The leather is already cracking and well, it just looks awful after a handful of uses. I did spray the bag with MK stain/water repellant but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I even used a leather conditioner on it to soften it up a bit.
I tend to purchase higher end bags...LV, Gucci, MJ collection..but didn't want to spend that kind of money for a white bag. I really thought a MK bag would be of better quality leather. (I do have a blue patent leather MK bag that is just beautiful and holding up very nicely.)

Has anyone else experienced this with this or any other vanilla leather MK bag?
Thanks for letting me vent a little...

Hi there,
I have a Layton in Vanilla and am really surprised as to how well it's held up. It is my workhorse and it carry it about 50% of the time and I haven't really had any problems with color transfer, etc! I did just notice that there was a tiny bit of blue color transfer on one corner of the bag but I cleaned it with a baby wipe and it came right off. In fact, I didn't even protect the bag when I bought it (wanted a "throw-down" bag, if you know what I mean). I am sorry that you are disappointed in the leather! I have several MK's and the leather on all of them is fantastic.

thanks for your response JXwilliams,
I have another MK patent leather bag and it is just beautiful and holding up very well. I don't know if the quality of the leather on this one is different because I purchased it from the MK outlet. I have never purchased from the outlet before so that has me thinking..hmmm

That is interesting--I will have to check out the bags the next time I go to the outlet. I really haven't heard of any issues with outlet bags in particular, but I do recall someone on TPF saying their Gansevoort tore.

What about their warranty? I thought they all had a 1 year warranty. I wonder how helpful they would be?!

That's a bummer. I've only owned two MK bags and both were black leathers. One pebbled and one with a bit of sheen. Neither was a problem and both were purchased at the outlet. I wonder if you got a lemon, so to speak, just a bad cut of leather. I'd take it back to the store to see what you can do. If they do nothing, call MK customer service.

I have 6 MK bags (see my Avatar) and they are all in perfect condition, no signs of wear. Now granted I also have 12 Coach bags, so none of my bags get much wear at all.

Having said that, my latest MK bag is the vanilla Jet Set and I have to admit I am SCARED TO DEATH to use it. I almost took it back and exchanged it for another color. I would never consider a vanilla bag to be an every day bag - and when I do carry it, I'll be super-duper paranoid and watching it every second. And I would NEVER wear it cross-body for fear of color transfer, which is a shame since it's made to be worn cross-body as an option.

I also have a "parchment" (off-white) Coach Zoe, and when I carry that bag I'm so paranoid about where I set it down, how I wear it, who and what is around it, etc.

So I guess I'm not surprised that yours may have gotten some dirt/color transfer on it, and I don't think MK would do anything for that (nor will Coach), but if it's actually cracking (YIKES!) I would certainly want them to take a look at that for me and hope they don't call it "normal wear and tear".

I hope you can take it back to them for a look and see if there is anything they can do for you. Please do keep us posted and good luck.

Sorry you're having this issue with cracking - that's crazy and sub-standard quality. Hopefully, it just a fluke. I'd definitely take it in to MK and see what they can do. I have the Gansevoort rouched tote in black and have had no problems with the leather. I've carried it off and on for over a year and still perfect. Let us know what happens.

Hi there! I saw this thread and am hoping someone could help me, my peanut leather Michael kors gansevoort handle edges are cracked on both sides of each, and even the edging near the side pockets, and up by the metal logo where the metal belt is. Has any one had this problem at all? I have seen a few gansevoorts that have no cracking. Maybe it's because it's a softer leather...? :s I don't know how to fix it
:(
Thanks!!
