I was bidding on these gorgeous earrings on ebay - rubies, amethysts, pearls, diamonds, silver and gold ... but got beaten! Gutted I didn't bid just that bit higher!

I wish I was on here showing them off as my own, but instead, let me show off these earrings I nearly owned ... but don't.

I love them SO much!

Anybody else care to show off things they nearly owned ... but don't? :D

Dontcha just HATE when that happens? I buy most of jewelry on eBay, but I can't afford to go crazy with bidding. I think some bidders just bid one up out of spite. That's why I love Buy It Now.

They are beautiful! Maybe they'll be relisted, so you can get them?

You can see what % bidding activity certain users have together which can be indicative that they're trying to sell something for higher with the help of a friend or even themselves! I check on that all the time.

but why do they look like cats?

lol... am I trying to make you feel better? / not if you like cats.

I try to maintain the "set my maximum and walk away" stance on eBay.... but sometimes it's difficult. And sometimes I don't like to compete so I just look for stuff that it seems like nobody else wants. ;)

I just loved them. They were from early 20th century so had history and I loved the materials and colours and size and yes, even the cat design! They sold for £200 - wish I had set my max just a little higher!

ahhh.... that's too bad .... time to shop again though. :p

That maximum thing kind of throws us for a loop. When you get outbid, you sometimes discover that you really would have paid more ... darnit!

Yeah but even though they won it for a little more than your max bid you don't know what their max bid was. It could have been much more and you would have still lost out.

If I've learned anything it's that there's always another great find around the corner! :smile1:

This has happened to me many times with many h items, specifically scarves and shawls. I spend too much time hmming and hawing and by the time I make a decision, it's long gone!!! :(

ugh don't you hate when that happens!!?

I'm definitely a last second stalker I bid maximum right at the last minute:graucho:
and then someone bids something ridiculously high with 2 seconds to go :pout:

Pretty earrings though! I love turquoise and amethyst together. Maybe the seller will list another pair similar?

It happens many times to me. If you bid lots of items on ebay you'll see almost all items were bidded in the last minutes. I have set my max price I could afford and bid about 15 sec before auction ends and it works sometimes. If I could not get it I just said to myself it is so overpriced :p :p :p

THIS is what happened to me! In the last ten seconds me and another bidder entered our maximums, and they obviously put in a higher max than me. When I saw I wasn't winning I quickly went back to enter a higher amount, but it was too late.

They're vintage so they only rarely come up. Doubt I'll see another pair for ages. Will keep my eyes peeled though! :graucho:

Yep, I always do this. If you do it earlier you risk bumping up the price. But in this case it ruined me because I realised I would have bid higher but had no time to get the next bid in.
