Hello dear PF members,

I'm thinking about buying my very first BV bag. Two bags really caught my eye : the Mini Jodie and the Mini Pouch.
I love them both and can't really make up my mind...
The mini Jodie is super trendy and I love the design, but I'm not sure it's very practical. Plus, it seems to be more a night bag than a bag you carry to run errands.
On the other side, the Mini Pouch seems to be very versatile and the shoulder strap makes it very easy to carry on a daily basis. Since the Pouch has been launched, I've dreaming about it and the mini Pouch is a good go-to (I don't wear purses, tbh). But is it already old-fashioned ?

Which one would you recommend ?

Thank you for helping

Between these 2, and this might sound surprising, I think the Jodie is more practical because it fits a ton and is light weight, so can be easily worn on the crook of the arm without causing discomfort.
Now my opinion on the mini pouch will be controversial. First it doesn’t fit the bare essentials. I tried it in store and there is no way to fit your phone, card holder and key holder at the same time. You need to be very selective of what you put in there and to me, this makes it super impractical. As for it having a strap, that strap is so thin that in my eyes it ruins the esthetics of the bag. So I personally would recommend the Jodie if you must chose between these 2. But to me neither of them would be a practical day to day bag. Also I don’t know what other bags you have and what your needs are. As for bags being trendy or not, personally I couldn’t care less. I buy what works for me and what I feel can withstand the test of time. The Jodie is more timeless than the pouch in my opinion because it has that classic BV esthetic.
Would love to know what you end up chosing :).

Thank you for replying!

I have a very small key holder (I don't own a car), so I don't need a very big bag. My everyday bags are a Chanel mini 2.55 or a Balenciaga Hourglass - I'm used to very small bags.

To answer your question, I own more than 15 luxury bags and I am looking for a summerish tiny bag, which I could carry to the beach, restaurant, visiting any monument... with a trendy and classy touch at the same time.

Since I live in Paris and take the subway everyday, the Jodie don't feel secure. It's too easy to steal and that point really cools me down.

I may have to try them again in store. The braided leather has my preference anyway so I'm sure the bag will, at least, displays this "BV signature" leather.

Thank you again, I'll keep you in touch :D

After reading about your lifestyle and collection, I think you will use and enjoy the mini pouch more than the Jodie! Btw I lived in Paris for 3 years and understand very well what you mean about the metros :). I love Paris and miss it so much! Hopefully we’ll be visiting soon.
if it’s possible for you to try the bag, it’s ideal before purchasing. I tried so hard to make the mini pouch work for me but it couldn’t fit my essentials. But others make it work and enjoy it!
please share pix with us when u try them and decide :flowers:

I own the Mini Pouch, and love that I can carry it crossbody casually or as a clutch if I want to dress up. It is a tight fit for minimal essentials, but I am able to fit enough for running errands or an evening out. I have a Samorga insert for it to protect the lining and hold its shape. I place my phone on the bottom, then asthma inhaler, a tube of lipstick, and my key pouch on top. My cards go in the card slot of the Samorga insert. I will usually add a couple of tissues. Then it is at full capacity. The main con is having to empty the contents of my bag to access my phone. If you need to reach for your phone frequently, I do not recommend carrying the Mini Pouch.

By the way, I love Paris! I studied there in 1992 (hard to believe it has been 30 years!). Sadly my French is not what it used to be. I would love to go back!

I used to feel the Metro was pretty safe, but on the platform, I always held my bag close if it was crowded. My possible concern with the Mini Pouch is the thin straps would be easy to cut or break, so I would keep my hand on the pouch portion if anyone gets close.

Let us know what you decide, and definitely share pictures!

Can you get both?

I originally bought two mini pouches since I love that they can be handheld or crossbody. However, I saw a few mini Jodies out in the wild and was surprised by how easily it was styled.

Being a crossbody bag girl, I thought I would enjoy the pouches more but I actually am wearing my mini Jodie a lot more. The Jodie, in any size, is so classically Bottega Veneta and has more staying power than the pouches. So if you’re going for more of a timeless piece, the mini Jodie can make sense but the pouches are super functional too. I also find that they fit about the same amount of things (maybe the Jodie fits a tiny bit more but the zipper is more annoying to get in and out of —but that’s a plus on the metro!)

Good luck with your decision!

I have both and use the mini Jodie much more. It fits more and closes securely with a zipper, whereas the pouch is beautiful but has a really thin strap and only a magnet closure which opens when I run to catch a train etc. so it‘s less practical. I‘m glad I have both designs but if you choose one I would go for the mini Jodie.

Hello everyone ! Thank you so much for your detailed answers, it is great to know I can rely on such a community !

Despite the trend, I finally went for the Mini Pouch : it feels like the design suits me more, and I can see myself wearing it in a few years. The Jodie was very cute and very trendy, but not practical to my opinion. The surimposed handle and zipper make the zipper hard to play with, and the handle is very short for my frame. I like to wear big big coats, my arm wouldn't go through

I still went for the Intrecciato caramel leather, which is BV signature leather.

I like my Mini Pouch so much and can't wait to wear it !

Sorry, I've never seen your message, hence no answering it !

It's been almost a year since I bought my Mini Pouch and I've worn it a lot during summer, a bit less since winter came.
What fits in the bag ? A lot actually : my Iphone 12, some tissue papers, my keys, a small bottle of sanitazer, my subway pass and a lipstick. Almost the same as a mini classic flap from Chanel.

What I love in the Mini Pouch is the removable shoulder strap : you can wear it crossbody with a more relaxed outfit or at the croach of your arm for a more chic effect.

Hope it helps !

You made a great choice and good to know you still love it a year later!

OMG I could have written this all myself! Your needs/likes/wants/concerns are all mine except the bag I carry most is a Chanel 14b mini classic square mini. I've lusted over a BV in Parakeet for yearrrssss and this thread has convinced me to go for the pouch instead of the Jodie. I live in NYC and feel like I see the Jodie on every corner so was concerned I'd be seen as the "old lady" wearing something more outdated. I was also worried that the thin strap would hurt from all day crossbody wear. Going for it.

Hi @NYCpanthersgirl ! I'm considering getting the mini pouch and am curious if you're still loving your. Do you find it easy to style? I have a bunch of luxury bags and don't want to buy another one just to have it, so I'd love to know if it's functional and something you grab and go easily? Thank you!

I did and I love it as a summer bag! Its so fun. I wear it as a pop of color so I find that it goes with a lot of my outfits and that its more casual than a lot of my Chanel bags. My style started to be more relaxed after I became a mom and I'm even thinking about buying a mini loop because I love the versatility of it and how soft the weave is. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to put a ton of stuff in it but my SA taught me a trick to opening it up wide so that you can fit more inside. I will admit, it is a little tricky fitting an iPhone—especially if your phone case is rubber like mine. So I find that I'm usually carrying my phone outside of the bag when I wear it. That would be the only negative out of a lot of positives. I hope this helps!

Thank you, that's very helpful! I think I'm going to pull the trigger, just need to decide on the leather type. Do you have intrecciato or smooth leather? I wanted to get black and initially thought it'd make more sense to get intrecciato from BV since it's their staple. But I found a smooth leather camel at an amazing price ($1k new) and now I'm in doubts...
