So I just recently turned 50 and lost 50 pounds on top of that. I wanted to celebrate. I have considered a watch for a long while, but I had ordered a few and sent them back because none of them were comfortable or felt like "me". I had a picture in my head of what I wanted - 32 mm face, mother of pearl dial, diamond markers and/or bezel, two tone... Then I finally thought about a brand that meant something to me, and while a lot of people would disagree with my choice, it was TAG Heuer. I considered Cartier watches and looked at Rolex, but they were just... watches to me. So I figured I would maybe get an Aquaracer.

So Dh and I went to have me try them on, and when I tried this one on, we both knew immediately that it was mine. It is perfect, and everything I've ever wanted in a watch, despite it being NOTHING like what I went in looking for! 41 mm, black dial, no diamonds, stainless, automatic, skeleton back, a man's watch. Not knowing how a watch is supposed to fit, I just had them make it comfortable for me. That means it can slide maybe an inch up or down, but the face cannot turn off my wrist. When I went smaller, I felt claustrophobic. Despite being large, thick and heavy, this watch is comfortable and feels really good. I like the weight the same way I enjoy the weight of platinum; it feels like quality.

So without further ado, this is my new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 8 Grande Date GMT.20210304_191901.jpg

Happy birthday @HauteMama. I love the fact that this beautiful watch found you. Wear it in good health.

Congratulations on your milestones! I really like TAG Heuer, too. I have a small Aquaracer. Your watch looks great on you!
I was pretty sure I wanted an Aquaracer before we went to look and try them on, and I still think the Aquaracers are beautiful watches. I never thought I'd up with a Carrera, but the narrow bezel makes the face seem smaller than what it actually is, and the markers sparkle more than diamonds in the light! I'm smitten.

Congrats and happy birthday! Your TAG is gorgeous, and love the story of how it found you. Yes, sometimes what we think we’ll love in pictures is completely different from what we love when we actually see it in real life and put it on! Imho, yours is so much more unique and special than the Aquaracer you thought you wanted.

Like you, it’s my big 5-0 this year and I too decided to mark it with an automatic watch. When considering automatics, it seems so many just “default” to Rolex or Cartier (no offence to those with these brands - they make gorgeous watches!) but I also wanted to look at more under the radar Swiss brands. I ended up with a Longines and am SO happy with it!
