Michael Fassbender collected ‘Star Wars’ toys as a child. The German/Irish actor has made his first science fiction film in ‘Prometheus’ - a prequel to the ‘Alien’ film series - but admits it was another franchise he was obsessed with when he was growing up and still has models of the space ships and memorabilia from the original George Lucas trilogy.

He told Absolute Radio: ”Star Wars’ was really the only sci-fi sort of fascination I had as a youngster. I collected and I’ve still got the AT-AT and the Millennium Falcon and the Ewok village.

‘I suppose they are worth a bit of money. I sort of passed them on I think, and also I took them out of their box.’

Describing the Ewok Village, a model of the living area inhabited by the furry alien race, Michael added: ‘It’s kind of like three trees, or four perhaps, they’re sort of joined together with the platform bit.

‘It’s quite cool, you can go into the trunk of one and come out the other, and there’s a little sort of wind up trap net thing where you can sort of reel somebody up.’

Michael also talked about how he had to ‘dismiss’ other people’s opinions when he made ‘X-Men: First Class’, in which he starred as human mutant Magneto, so he didn’t feel the pressure of the avid fans of the Marvel comics.

He added: ‘There’s always a pressure. I sort of had that with ‘X-Men’ anyway. You know you’ve got a very large vocal passionate fan base, and you want to do them proud.

‘But you take that on board and then you kind of have to dismiss it. Because you want to make choices that are bold and definite, and if you’re worried about what other people are going to think other than your director, then the character will be neither here nor there.’

Why do I feel like he totally played with this the last time he was home?

Re: Star Wars toys

One thing I really like about him is that he seems to have retained some child-like, but not childish qualities. I can't remember the exact quote, but Cronenberg said something about being envious of his sense of joy in the world. I think Steve may have been trying to describe a similar quality whenever he mentions MF's fragility and humanity. He's refreshingly enthusiastic and seemingly uncynical in an industry that tends to kill those qualities.

12 Years a Slave casting news:

Adepero Oduye, who starred in the 2011 indie/drama hit “Pariah” is circling ‘12 YEARS A SLAVE,’ the third, and arguably biggest directing effort from British helmer Steve McQueen (Shame). When she signs the dotted line, Oduye will co-star alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt.

Based on a true story, the Civil War-era piece centers on Solomon Northrup, a New York citizen who was kidnapped in Washington in 1841 and rescued from a cotton plantation in Louisiana in 1853. Oduye would play the female lead in the film. McQueen wrote the script with John Ridley.

The pic will serve as Oduye’s follow-up to her critically acclaimed performance in “Pariah,” where she played a 17-year-old girl living in Brooklyn, as she quietly embraced her identity as a young lesbian woman.

New Line will distribute “12 Years A Slave” with Plan B and River Road to produce.

Nicole is a bad girlfriend, she doesn't know how to take care of her man. Michael looks gaunt and old. If I was his girlfriend, girl, I'll be cooking him some fried chicken, biscuits & gravy, some peach cobbler, and some lovin all night that he be forgetting he is a superstar and be fat.

LOL When he said "passed on" I wondered if he gave them to his nephew. I mean why not :P

I don't buy it. I'll bet he stills has those toys because he loves to play with them every night. Hence the absence of a TV.

So.... Saw Shame this past week.....*shifts* ...I'm sold!

But seriously, it was a very good movie...

I've liked Fass since 300..

Welcome!! Always great to have a new convert. Enjoy the Fasyy lurve.

I wonder how the screening for PBH will go next week. I'm working that time and I hope it will run smoothly (please no lunatic women *cross fingers*)

Are you working in the theatre it's being screened at that day? I sure hope so. What are your duties during the festival? Anything fun like assisting with the Q&As? Oh and don't even bother holding your breath; the loonies will be there. ;)
