Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else has gone through something similar.
I recently purchased a 2019 Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis (Monogram Canvas). When I received it, I immediately noticed that the canvas looked muted, almost dull compared to my other Louis Vuitton pieces. I have an older Alma, and its canvas looks noticeably richer and more vibrant. The contrast between the two is pretty striking.
I did a lot of research and even reached out to some resellers and LV lovers, and I’ve seen people mention that certain years (around 2018–2019) sometimes had canvas batches that appeared more muted or less saturated. Some say it’s just the natural variation, others hint that quality may have slightly changed in those years.
Here’s a bit of background on how I got it:
It’s a 2019 Metis with the date code SD** (Made in USA)
I bought it preloved from a reputable reseller
Condition is excellent, but the canvas just doesn’t have that boldness I expected
I’ve even seen newer Métis bags in stores, and they seem richer in tone
Now I’m torn. I love the bag, but I can’t stop comparing it to the brighter canvas on my other pieces. I’m wondering:
Is this just a normal variation?
Did anyone else get a Métis that feels a little flat in color?
Does the canvas darken or patina over time like vachetta does? Or is this the "final" look?
I also thought about trying to brighten it up (gently, of course) but I don’t want to damage it.
Would love to hear from anyone who has had the same issue or who has kept a more muted canvas and grown to love it! ❤️
Thank you so much for reading!
