Does anyone have any comments on the metallic leather bags, ie. bronze, gold, gunmetal, etc?

I just ordered a bronze Layton, and after poking around on ebay, now I'm concerned. Quite a few used gold and bronze bags seem like the color is wearing off. :-s Especially around the edges and corners.

Do I have to be worried about rain, or getting a spot of something on it? Not to mention the problems I've read about Coach metallics, so I may be slightly paranoid. :sweatdrop: Wondering if it's just metallic pebble leather.

Here's an extreme example of a lot of color loss:

:wondering

TIA.

Wow that poor bag.

My co-worker has the bronze Layton large satchel and she's been carrying it daily since she bought it two months ago. It still looks brand new, it's gorgeous.

I would like to hear more feedback as well because I just ordered the MK Heidi in gunmetal...I have always loved metallic leather bags but was a bit scared to take the plunge.

^Thanks. It's good to know someone has it and loves it with no issues. I only have one metallic, it's patent and had no issues, so far.

That ebay bag scares me. Like, what happened?!?!? Wish some of these bags could talk.

I know all about the problems with Coach metallics....I have owned several and each one had issues. I havent heard of any issues with MK's metallics, so I am hoping others who own them can add to this too!!!

I've got two Bronze Austin bags: a satchel and a hobo. And a gunmetal Pocket tote. The Bronze Austin satchel and Gunmetal Pocket Tote have each seen 4-6 months of continuous use and do not show any unique wear to the metallic leather.

I know!! I swear, I saw a RM one time that looked like it had been run over by a car, it was in awful shape I literally would've thrown it away. But alas, somebody thought they could make a buck off of it...The thing that surprised me is that it actually sold!! Yes, people actually buy beat up bags!

I have a Coach Patent Peyton Carryall and thankfully have had no problems *knocks wood*. Sorry to hear you had problems :( I bought a rosegold Sabrina once and returned when I realized it could be a problem down the road.

 Thanks Meg, for helping me feel better! The Austins are a soft leather so this is a good thing.

i love the metallics for MK. when everyone gets theirs post pics!!!

Will do. That is, IF I can get over having a bag that could have problems down the road and don't return it.

I see them, too! Roadkill bags, haha! There are probably sellers who know how to refurbish bags and then they plop them back on ebay as a used bag in great 'like new' condition.

Thanks for your comments!:smile1:

I was talking to an SA about the gunmetal and get this (for the coachies that are over here on the MK side.....) You can treat the MK gunmetal bags, with cleaner and moisturizer! Unlike coach that just has the "wipe with damp cloth" care instructions. I thought that this was a good sign.

That's good to know, muranogrl. I hope the bronze is that easy to care for.

I still want to know what happened to that ebay bag, though. Maybe they cleaned it with a Brillo pad?

Not about metallic but about the MK leather cleaner since it was mentioned in this thread. When I was at the store recently, a lady brought in that gorgeous Moxley that someone bought here recently. I don't know the entire story, but I overheard that one of the SA's had tried to use the MK leather cleaner on her bag (she had left it with them for whatever reason) and it made the problem much, much worse and the bag was in really bad shape. They were trying to figure out how to resolve the situation and I heard them say she would have to come back when the manager was there. The lady was really nice. If they had ruined my bag I would have had steam coming out of my ears!!

It was a S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G bag too. Whoever it was that bought it on here - WOW!! And DON'T EVER use cleaner on it - EVER!!!!

Ugh, Chrissy! That poor bag. I would have been pissed, too.

So.....I sent back the Layton yesterday.

As badly as I want a metallic bag, just was not happy with it. It didn't smell like leather. It wasn't as supple and had a rougher texture. I think this particular Layton (the shoulder) is a different leather than the satchel. The rough texture of it leads me to believe this is why the color is wearing off in some of the Bay bags. Really don't want to chance it.

I should have went with my first choice which was the satchel. Bummed. :shucks:
